　上を紙に而者里上書には松倉長門守殿御内
　と書付有之
　　　今度当島之者共をの〳〵御ふみ古路し
　　　候はん春ると御申に付而のかれ加年四郎殿
　　　をたのみ申け様に成果申候城内に鑓取申候者
　　　一万弐千弐百の内書立に見へ申候内にな以
　　　せう申入候様に少ゆる〳〵と御者つせきも被
　　　成候はゝけ様に成申満しき事に候と皆々申候
　　　今は仕やうなく候てけ様に候知行も望ま須
　　　又国も所望になしやみ〳〵と御ふみ古路し

　　　候はんと申に付当島之者共右之仕合に我々まて
　　　取ごと成迷惑千万に而命を捨働候間人
　　　種尽可申存候最早廿日斗に石火矢鉄炮
　　　雨之ふる様に候得共遂にあたり不申候付て扨々
　　　てらすの御き登くとて弥悦申候あたり不
　　　申志るしは舩ゟうち申候ものに御尋可為候蟻
　　　のとう参候様に候人々あたりたるを見申者

現代語訳

上を紙にて書き上げた書には松倉長門守殿御内と書付がございます。

今度当島の者共が各々御文を古路（苦労）しておりますが、春ると仰せになったことについて、野かれ加年四郎殿を頼み申したような次第でございます。城内に槍を取って戦う者一万二千二百の内、書立に見えます内に何とか少しでも申し入れるように、ゆるゆると御詮索もなされますなら、このようになりましょう、満足なことでございますと皆々申しております。

今はどうしようもなく、このような有様で知行も望みません。また国も所望せず、やみやみと御文を古路（苦労）しておりますと申すことについて、当島の者共が右の仕合いで我々まで巻き込まれ、迷惑千万で命を捨てて働いておりますので、人種が尽きてしまうと存じます。

もはや二十日ほど石火矢・鉄砲が雨の降るようでございましたが、ついに当たらず申さず候につき、さてさて、てらす（天主）の御加護ということで、いよいよ悦び申します。当たらない印は船から撃った者に御尋ね下さるべきです。蟻の塔へ参るようで、人々が当たったのを見た者はあるまじく候。いつも不思議なことでございます。

The document written on paper above bears the inscription "Matsukura Nagato-no-kami-dono's household."

This time, regarding the people of this island each struggling with letters, concerning what was said about spring coming, we have come to rely on Nokare Kanenshiro-dono in this manner. Among the 12,200 spear-bearing warriors in the castle as shown in the written records, if you would conduct a leisurely investigation so that we might somehow make even a small petition, this would come to pass, and everyone says this would be satisfactory.

Now there is nothing to be done, and in this state we desire no fief. Also desiring no country, we struggle desperately with letters. Regarding this matter, the people of this island, due to these circumstances, have involved even us, causing tremendous trouble as we fight desperately at the cost of our lives, so I believe our people will be completely exhausted.

For about twenty days now, stone fire arrows and muskets have been falling like rain, but they have not hit their targets. Therefore, thanks to the divine protection of Teras (the Lord), we rejoice all the more. You should inquire of those who shot from the ships about the sign that nothing hits. It is like ants going to a tower - there should be no one who has seen people being hit. This is always a mysterious thing.
