　古老曰百年已来未聞之儀与云々
島原要聞記曰板倉内膳正重昌は二之丸塀際
　迄行處に段々諸手歴々之武士幷先勢打
　倒され内膳正其身茂手負なから押登ら連希
　る一揆共大将を目に懸連は鉄炮雨之降る
　如く来る然共内膳正其身所々に中り鉄炮
　を叓共せす塀際迄押登ら連けるか左之乳
　之上に鉄炮中り打貫る痛手故忽戦死也《割書：或｜云》
　《割書：此内膳正を討たる一揆｜金作与云者なり》金作心に内膳正を当地領主
　松倉長門守与思ひ打多る也内膳正た里之事

　を後日に聞て枩倉与思ひ打多里しと後悔
　し堂類也是長門守仕置与語しからさるを憤
　りて之事也此城責之即松倉氏は黄色之
　鎧を着す内膳正者黄羅紗之陣羽織を
　着せら連し故松倉与見誤り多類と也此時
　内膳正死骸を肩に引掛陣屋に帰りしは内
　膳正家来都築杢左衛門与云者也後年
　松平大和守直矩江奉公して足軽大将を勤

近代諸士伝略曰正月元日板倉内膳正重昌諸

現代語訳

古老が言うには「百年来聞いたことのない出来事である」とのことである。

『島原要聞記』に曰く、板倉内膳正重昌は二の丸の塀際まで進んだところ、次々と諸手の歴々たる武士並びに先陣の兵が討ち倒され、内膳正その身も手負いになりながらも押し登っていく。一揆勢は大将を目がけて鉄砲を雨の降るように撃ってくる。それでも内膳正はその身の所々に当たり鉄砲を受けても屈せず、塀際まで押し登ったが、左の乳の上に鉄砲が当たり貫通した。痛手のために忽ち戦死した。（或いは言う）（この内膳正を討った一揆は金作という者である）金作は心の内で内膳正を当地の領主松倉長門守だと思って討ったのである。内膳正がそうした事を後日聞いて、松倉と思って討ったのだと後悔して嘆いたという。これは長門守の仕置きが良くないことを憤ってのことである。この城攻めの際、松倉氏は黄色の鎧を着ていた。内膳正は黄羅紗の陣羽織を着ていたため、松倉と見間違えたということである。この時内膳正の死骸を肩に引っかけて陣屋に帰ったのは、内膳正の家来都築杢左衛門という者である。後年松平大和守直矩に奉公して足軽大将を務めた。

The elderly said, "This is an unprecedented event, unheard of in a hundred years."

The *Shimabara Yōbunki* (Essential Records of Shimabara) states: Itakura Naizen-no-shō Shigemasa advanced to the fence of the second bailey, where one after another the distinguished warriors of various units and vanguard forces were struck down. Though Naizen-no-shō himself was wounded, he continued to press forward. The rebels, targeting the commander, fired muskets like falling rain. Even so, though Naizen-no-shō was hit by musket balls in various places on his body, he did not yield and pressed forward to the fence. However, a musket ball struck above his left breast and penetrated through. Due to this severe wound, he died instantly in battle. (Some say) (The rebel who killed this Naizen-no-shō was a man called Kinsaku) In his heart, Kinsaku thought Naizen-no-shō was the local lord Matsuura Nagato-no-kami and killed him. Learning of this matter later, Naizen-no-shō regretted that he had been killed because he was mistaken for Matsuura, and lamented. This happened because of anger over Nagato-no-kami's poor administration. During this castle assault, Lord Matsuura wore yellow armor. Naizen-no-shō wore a yellow woolen jinbaori (battle surcoat), so he was mistaken for Matsuura. The one who carried Naizen-no-shō's corpse on his shoulder back to the camp was Naizen-no-shō's retainer, a man called Tsuzuki Mokuza'emon. In later years, he served Matsudaira Yamato-no-kami Naonori and served as an ashigaru captain.
