　る事残念之至也方方は武功有人な連は弔
　ひ軍をさせ亭給り候得与申さ類十蔵承り
　候迚主膳を連て細川越中守方ゟ仕置し
　柵木を引退仕可申希亭せ里合を者し免城
　中ゟも大勢出て防戦春十蔵下知して急に
　仕懸主膳を者し免手之者共尓首取らせ一
　揆之奴原を城中江追込み主膳茂腰之阿た
　里疵付く猶主膳乗入らんと春るを十蔵は
　無理におさへて引取しと也此主膳後に内
　膳正に改む右故に後々迄内膳正十蔵江懇

　塀下に着といへ共攻手鉄炮に打立ら連進得
　春故に十蔵屏下を退く後口より鉄炮烈敷

　覚曰元日惣責之時有馬兵部殿先手敗軍
　い堂し候様に見江候に付内膳殿十蔵御越し兵
　部殿江御逢被仰候は先手見苦候間持答へ候

ることは残念の至りである。皆様方は武功のある人々なので、弔い合戦をさせて下さい」と申した類いを十蔵が承ったということで、主膳を連れて細川越中守方から仕置きした柵木を引き退けて攻撃しようと希望したところ、城中からも大勢出てきて防戦した。十蔵が下知して急に仕掛け、主膳をはじめ手の者共に首を取らせ、一揆の奴原を城中へ追い込み、主膳も腰のあたりに傷を負った。なお主膳が乗り入ろうとするのを、十蔵は無理に抑えて引き取ったということである。この主膳は後に内膳正と改名した。右の故に、後々まで内膳正は十蔵へ懇情大変深くなった。

『掃聚雑談』に曰く、肥前国島原城攻めの時、石谷十蔵は塀下に着いたといっても、攻め手が鉄砲に打ち立てられて進み得ないので、十蔵は塀下を退いた。後口より鉄砲が激しく発せられたといっても、十蔵の退き口は勇ましく堂々としていたということである。

黒沢佐太夫・岸半右衛門「島原一揆の時節働きの覚」に曰く、元日総攻めの時、有馬兵部殿の先手が敗軍いたした様に見えたので、内膳殿・十蔵が越して兵部殿にお会いし、仰せられたのは「先手が見苦しく候間、持ち直すよう御下知が然るべき」と仰せられた。兵部殿の御挨拶に「私が

Although intense musket fire was discharged from the rear entrance, Jūzō's withdrawal was conducted bravely and with dignity.
