　り竹牌を為持被参よかしと有に依て八太夫
　畏候迚差物を抜て其場に残し仕寄場ゟ竹牌
　を数多ゐ持参り御旗本を囲み希里彼八太夫
　背旗を残置たるは暫後陣江之帰る時之古実
　也とそ其後十蔵殿は三之丸之方江赴連しか
　無程御目付ゟ使者来けれは調所勘兵衛其使
　者に立向て口状を聞に先手之軍勢を下知せ
　ら連城を攻可有与也勘兵衛使者に云う希る
　は兵部太輔手之者は今朝未明ゟ塀下に付て
　身命を不惜働候に今更城を責よと有は事新

　き仰也左様之不吟味成御口上は輙は主人に
　難申此旨を可被申与云て使者を帰す夜有て
　彼使者を被立し御目付与覚へて小屋被引取
　被申希るを忠郷之旗本之軍士御目付之敗北
　はきたなし迚同音に笑希れは忠郷制調を被
　加かゝ里希連は板倉内膳殿は松倉殿仕寄前
　に而深手負給石谷十蔵殿松平甚三郎殿も創
　を被て小屋江被引し登聞しか者寄手気を失
　て引色に成る城兵弥勝に乗て矢石を手繁く
　放か希鬨之声を上希連は諸勢友崩して引退

現代語訳

り、竹牌を持参されよ」ということであったので、八太夫は「畏まりました」と言って差物（刀）を抜いてその場に残し、仕寄場から竹牌を数多く持参って御旗本を囲んだ。この八太夫が背旗を残し置いたのは、しばらく後陣へ帰る時の古実（慣例）であるという。その後十蔵殿は三の丸の方へ赴いたが、程なく御目付から使者が来たので、調所勘兵衛がその使者に立ち向かって口上を聞くと、「先手の軍勢を下知されて城を攻めるべし」ということであった。勘兵衛は使者に言うには、「兵部太輔の手の者は今朝未明から塀下に付いて身命を惜しまず働いておりますのに、今更城を攻めよというのは事新しい

仰せです。そのような不吟味な御口上は軽々しく主人に申すことは難しい。この旨を申すべし」と言って使者を帰した。夜になってその使者を立てた御目付と思われる者が小屋を引き取って申されたのを、忠郷の旗本の軍士は「御目付の敗北は見苦しい」と同音に笑ったので、忠郷は制止を加えた。このような中、板倉内膳殿は松倉殿の仕寄前において深手を負われ、石谷十蔵殿、松平甚三郎殿も創を負って小屋へ引かれたと聞いた。寄せ手は気を失って引き色になり、城兵はいよいよ勝ちに乗って矢石を頻繁に放ち、鬨の声を上げたので、諸勢は皆崩れて引き退いた。

When night came, the inspector (believed to be the one who had sent that messenger) withdrew his hut, and Tadasato's hatamoto soldiers all laughed in unison, saying "The inspector's defeat is unseemly." Tadasato imposed restraint on them. Meanwhile, it was heard that Lord Itakura Naizen sustained deep wounds at Lord Matsukura's siege position, and Lord Ishitani Juuzou and Lord Matsudaira Jinzaburou were also wounded and withdrawn to their huts. The attacking forces lost heart and showed signs of retreat, while the castle defenders rode their momentum to victory, frequently launching arrows and stones and raising war cries, causing all the various forces to collapse and withdraw.
