　難有且　　御名代之節自分拝礼之節心添之儀
　相頼今日内見仕度旨申述ヒ帰候節次之間迄送
　　但明朝出宅之刻限抔承合置候
一御供之御医師北村安正入来前二同断送無之
一御門主ゟ為御使執頭龍王院御留守居法門院入来次之
　間迄出迎書院江通明日於御本坊御料可被下旨御
　口上承之勝手江入吸物酒菓子差出相済罷出御門主
　弥御安全ヒ成御座乍上珍重之御義奉存候明日御料理ヒ下
　候ニ付御本坊江参上可仕旨忝仕合奉存候御受之儀宜ヒ及
　御沙汰可ヒ下候段申述上江少し上り自分挨拶且此度萬端
　心添之儀相頼ヒ帰候節玄関敷臺迄送
一奉行土屋筑後守入来吸物酒菓子抔差出相済対面御
　機嫌ヒ相伺候ニ付御機嫌宣旨申達年寄衆之伝言有之
　旨申達其節家来次之間ゟ奉書持出自分手二取
　筑後江相渡夫ゟ同人御山御安全之旨ヒ申聞御同前恐悦之
　旨及挨拶少し座を下り此度
　御名代ヒ　仰付　　　御宮　　御霊屋自分拝礼伺
　之通相済難有段申述後刻　　御宮
　御霊屋内見之申達明朝
　御名代相勤候節勤方抔打合置候萬事心添之義相頼

　　但明日　御名代相済候注文状御本坊ニ而封候先格二候得共
　　明日差掛間合も有之間敷　掛合案文為見候而封候

一日光御目代番堀利兵衛中川又次郎両人入来自分出座
　御名代ヒ　仰付宜頼入候段及挨拶退座
一御門主ゟ為御使御用人以進藤丹波守御菓子ヒ下候由目御使
　先江御菓子折来候二付座敷床之江毛氈敷其上ニ差置
　無程御使罷越候ニ付出迎致案内書院江通し口上承之御
　菓子折之方江向平伏いたし退座吸物菓子抔差出候処
　断ニ付直罷出御門主弥御安泰被成御座乍恐珍重之御儀
　奉存候旅宿為御尋御使ヒ成下秣一種ヒ下置仕合奉存候
　御受之儀宜申上可ヒ下と申述少上り自分致挨拶ヒ帰候
　節玄関敷臺迄送
一客来相済入湯清メ候而熨斗目半袴着用九半時前出宅
　御本坊江参上御門外石坂下ニ而下乗夫ゟ御玄関ニ者執頭龍王
　院御留守居法門御用人抔敷臺迄出迎按内有之鳥渡
　致会釈刀提候而御座敷江罷通刀ㇵ敷居外二差置執頭
　御留守居ヒ出候間口上左之通申述

現代語訳

有り難く、且つ御名代の節の自分拝礼の節の心添えの儀を相談し、今日内見したい旨を申し述べた。帰る節は次の間まで送った。
　　但し明朝出立の刻限などを承り合わせて置いた。

一、御供の医師北村安正が入来した。前と同様で、送りはなし。

一、御門主からの御使いとして執頭龍王院、御留守居法門院が入来した。次の間まで出迎えて書院へ通した。明日御本坊において御料理を下される旨の御口上を承った。勝手へ入り、吸物・酒・菓子を差し出して相済んでから出た。御門主がいよいよ御安全でいらっしゃることは恐れながら珍重の御儀と存じ上げる。明日御料理を下されるにつき御本坊へ参上仕る旨、忝い仕合わせと存じ上げる。御受けの儀よろしく御沙汰を下さるべき段を申し述べ、少し上座に上がり自分で挨拶し、且つこの度万端心添えの儀を相談した。帰る節は玄関の敷台まで送った。

一、奉行土屋筑後守が入来したので吸物・酒・菓子などを差し出して相済んでから対面した。御機嫌を相伺ったところ、御機嫌よろしい旨を申し達した。年寄衆の伝言がある旨を申し達した。その節、家来が次の間から奉書を持ち出し、自分の手に取って筑後へ相渡した。それから同人が御山御安全の旨を申し聞かせ、同前に恐悦の旨挨拶に及んだ。少し座を下がり、この度御名代を仰せ付けられ、御宮・御霊屋への自分拝礼について伺いの通り相済んで有り難い段を申し述べた。後刻御宮・御霊屋の内見を申し達し、明朝御名代を相勤める節の勤め方などを打ち合わせて置き、万事心添えの義を相談した。次の間まで送った。
　　但し明日御名代が相済んだ後の注文状を御本坊で封じるのが先格であるけれども、明日は差し迫って間合いもあるまじく、掛け合いの案文を見せて封じる儀を申し談じて置いた。

一、日光御目代番堀利兵衛、中川又次郎両人が入来した。自分が出座して、御名代を仰せ付けられ、よろしく頼み入る段挨拶に及んで退座した。

一、御門主からの御使いとして御用人以下進藤丹波守が御菓子を下さる由で、御使いの先に御菓子の折が来たので、座敷の床の間に毛氈を敷き、その上に差し置いた。程なく御使いが参ったので出迎えして案内し、書院へ通して口上を承った。御菓子の折の方へ向かって平伏して退座した。吸物・菓子などを差し出したところ断られたので、直ちに出た。御門主がいよいよ御安泰でいらっしゃることは恐れながら珍重の御儀と存じ上げる。旅宿のお尋ねとして御使いを成し下され、御菓子を下し置かれる仕合わせと存じ上げる。御受けの儀よろしく申し上げ下さるべきと申し述べ、少し上がり自分で挨拶した。帰る節は玄関の敷台まで送った。

一、客来が相済んでから入湯して身を清め、熨斗目半袴を着用し、九つ半時前に出立して御本坊へ参上した。御門外の石坂下で下乗し、それから御玄関には執頭龍王院、御留守居法門、御用人などが敷台まで出迎えて案内があり、少し会釈をして刀を提げて御座敷へ参り通った。刀は敷居の外に差し置き、執頭・御留守居が出たので、口上を左の通り申し述べた。

[This is gratefully received], and moreover I consulted about assistance during my own worship ceremony as imperial representative and expressed my desire to conduct an inspection today. When he departed, I escorted him to the next room.
　　Note: I also confirmed the departure time for tomorrow morning.

1. Imperial physician Kitamura Yasumasa entered. Same as before, no escort.

1. As messengers from the temple head, Executive Head Ryūō-in and Caretaker Hōmon-in entered. I went out to greet them to the next room and led them to the reception room. I received the verbal message that tomorrow a meal would be provided at the main temple. I went to the kitchen area and served soup, sake, and sweets, and after completing this, departed. That the temple head continues in perfect health is, though I say so humbly, a most precious matter. Since a meal will be provided tomorrow, I consider it a most gracious honor to be able to visit the main temple. I stated that the matter of acceptance should be favorably reported, moved up slightly to a higher seat and personally gave greetings, and moreover consulted about assistance in all matters for this occasion. When they departed, I escorted them to the entrance platform.

1. Magistrate Tsuchiya Chikugo-no-kami entered, so I served soup, sake, sweets and such, and after this was completed, we met face to face. When I inquired about his well-being, I conveyed that he was in good health. I conveyed that there was a message from the elders. At that time, a retainer brought out an official document from the next room, I took it in my own hands and handed it to Chikugo. Then this person informed me that the sacred mountain was secure, and in the same manner we exchanged greetings expressing joy. Moving down slightly in my seat, I stated that having been appointed as imperial representative this time, my inquiry about personal worship at the main shrine and mausoleum had been completed as discussed, for which I was grateful. I announced that I would conduct an inspection of the main shrine and mausoleum later, coordinated the manner of service for tomorrow morning when I would serve as imperial representative, and consulted about assistance in all matters. I escorted him to the next room.
　　Note: Although it is precedent to seal the order document at the main temple after completing service as imperial representative tomorrow, since tomorrow will be pressed for time with little opportunity, I discussed and arranged to seal the document after showing the draft of the consultation.

1. Both Nikko deputy representatives Hori Rihei and Nakagawa Matajirō entered. I took my seat personally, exchanged greetings stating that I had been appointed imperial representative and earnestly requested their favor, then withdrew.

1. As a messenger from the temple head, steward and below, Shindō Tamba-no-kami came to present sweets. Since a box of sweets arrived before the messenger, I spread a felt mat on the alcove of the sitting room and placed it on top. Before long the messenger arrived, so I went out to greet him, guided him, and led him to the reception room to receive his verbal message. I prostrated myself facing toward the box of sweets and withdrew. When I offered soup and sweets, he declined, so I departed immediately. That the temple head continues in perfect peace is, though I say so humbly, a most precious matter. I am grateful that he sent a messenger to inquire about my travel lodgings and presented sweets. I stated that the matter of acceptance should be favorably reported, moved up slightly and personally gave greetings. When he departed, I escorted him to the entrance platform.

1. After the visitors were finished, I bathed to purify myself, donned my ceremonial dress and hakama, and departed before nine-thirty to visit the main temple. I dismounted at the stone slope below the temple gate, then at the main entrance, Executive Head Ryūō-in, Caretaker Hōmon, stewards and others came out to greet me at the platform and provided guidance. I exchanged brief courtesies and proceeded to the reception room carrying my sword. I placed my sword outside the threshold, and when the executive head and caretaker appeared, I stated my message as follows:
