1. Today, for the return audience after coming back to the capital, I purified myself and wore the bestowed crested noshi-me semi-formal dress, left home after 5 o'clock and went to the castle. When I sent word through a servant to the inspector (metsuke) that I was going to the castle, Morikawa Shuzen replied that he understood, and those on duty also came out and we talked in the servants' quarters.
Under the guidance of Inspector Asahina Jirōzaemon, I waited by the folding screen in the Hame-no-ma room. After a while, under the guidance of Inspector Nakagawa Kanzaburō, I waited in the Shinbansho (New Guard Station).
Under the guidance of Junior Councilor Ii Hyōbu-shōyū, I waited in the corridor of the Sasa-no-ma (Bamboo Room).
After exchanging greetings with Hyōbu-shōyū, my short sword and fan were taken, and I was guided forward.
I waited by the white eagle cedar door panels, and when there were greetings again, I immediately passed through the veranda walkway, sat in the prescribed manner at the threshold of the inner side, then slid inside and prostrated myself. The on-duty official Lord Izuno-kami announced my name, and there was a command from above.
I advanced before His Presence, positioned myself below the upper platform, then slid up to the upper platform, prostrated myself, and made the following report:
"On the 20th day at Nikko Reishō (Mausoleum), I successfully completed my duties as deputy for the ceremonial worship, and all matters concluded without any hindrance."
After finishing this report, I slid down to the lower platform, turned right, placed my hands on the floor at the second tatami mat from below and prostrated myself. When I turned only my face toward the on-duty official, there was an acknowledgment.
There was a gracious command that my efforts during this time were greatly appreciated, and again there was an acknowledgment directed toward Lord Izuno-kami, after which it concluded.
I turned right and withdrew, exiting as I had entered, passing through the Hame-no-ma and Yamabuki-no-ma rooms.
