御奉公ニも清メ之義不申来候間服釋之衆不相構致廻
勤候心得ニ有之候其此節老若之内差合之衆無之

一昨夕年寄衆連名之奉書御用番伊豆守殿守殿ゟ到来今日
登 城候処日光廿日 御名代被 仰付候段當勤之
同席中江直廻状太田攝津守安藤長門殿江も手紙其外
病気幼少在邑之衆江者下廻状差出候事
一日光 御名代被 仰付候付先格之通日光御門主其外
日光奉行上野在山役者衆出家中東漸院幷日光
道中中田房川御関所支配御代官江以使者為
知旁頼遣候事
一御用番松平伊豆守殿江留守居之者被召呼
御名代被 仰付候付外櫻田御門番御免被成候旨以御書
付被仰渡候依之為御礼伊豆守殿江書致直勤候
現代語訳
日光より帰参の節、道中急いで月番の老中宅に退出以前に参着することがあったが、今後急ぐには及ばない。十七日の御名代、御祭礼奉行は十九日暮れまでの内、二十日の御名代は二十三日暮れまでの内に月番まで参るべきことである。
右の通り、御名代、御祭礼奉行を仰せ付けられた節には伝達すべきことである。
右の写しを代り松平紀伊守殿にも差し遣わした。
一、御礼のため西丸に登城し、雁の間において御奏者稲葉丹後守に謁見した。
一、年寄衆、若年寄衆に御礼のため回った。もっとも玄関で申し置いた。
ただし先年は服中の老中・若年寄には回勤しなかった由であるが、近頃の御奉公にも清めの義を申さないので、服釈の衆には構わず回勤する心得であった。その上この節、老中・若年寄の内に差し合いの衆がいないため、ともかく残らず回勤した。
一、帰宅は九つ半時過ぎであった。
一、昨夕、年寄衆連名の奉書が御用番伊豆守殿から到来し、今日登城したところ、日光二十日の御名代を仰せ付けられた段を当勤の同席中に直ちに廻状で知らせた。太田摂津守、安藤長門殿にも手紙を出し、その外、病気・幼少・在郷の衆には下廻状を差し出した。
一、日光御名代を仰せ付けられたため、先格の通り日光御門主その外日光奉行、上野在山役者衆、出家中東漸院並びに日光道中中田房川御関所支配御代官に使者をもって知らせ、よろしく頼み遣わした。
一、御用番松平伊豆守殿に留守居の者が召し呼ばれ、御名代を仰せ付けられたため外桜田御門番を御免になる旨を御書付をもって仰せ渡された。これにより御礼のため伊豆守殿に書状を出して直接勤めた。

When returning from Nikkō, there have been occasions when one hurried on the journey and arrived at the monthly duty elder's residence before departing, but henceforth there is no need to hurry. The proxy for the 17th and festival commissioners should report to the monthly duty officer by the evening of the 19th, and the proxy for the 20th should report by the evening of the 23rd.
As stated above, this should be communicated when appointed as proxy or festival commissioner.
A copy of the above was also sent to substitute Lord Matsudaira Kii-no-kami.
1. For the purpose of expressing gratitude, I went to Nishinomaru castle and had an audience with court presenter Inaba Tango-no-kami in Kari-no-ma.
1. I made rounds to the elders and junior elders to express gratitude, leaving word at their entrance halls.
However, in previous years, I did not make rounds to elders and junior elders who were in mourning, but recently in government service, purification matters are not mentioned, so I understood that I should make rounds to those who had completed mourning without concern. Moreover, at this time, there were no conflicting schedules among the elders and junior elders, so I made rounds to all without exception.

1. Last evening, a formal letter signed by the elders arrived from duty officer Lord Izu-no-kami. When I went to the castle today, I immediately circulated the news to my colleagues on duty that I had been appointed as Nikkō proxy for the 20th. I also sent letters to Ōta Settsu-no-kami and Andō Nagato-dono, and sent lower-level circulars to those who were ill, young, or in their domains.

Since I was appointed as Nikkō proxy, according to precedent, I sent messengers to inform and request cooperation from the Nikkō gate master and others, Nikkō magistrates, Kōzuke mountain duty officials, monks of Tōzen-in, and the deputy officials in charge of Nakatahōkawa checkpoint on the Nikkō road.

The caretaker was summoned by duty officer Lord Matsudaira Izu-no-kami, and I was informed through a written order that I was relieved of Soto-Sakurada gate guard duty because I had been appointed as proxy. Accordingly, I wrote directly to Lord Izu-no-kami to express my gratitude and performed my duty directly.
