座を少し下ㇼ此度廿日 御名代被 仰付難有
且又 御宮 御霊屋自分拝礼伺之通相済是又
難有旨申之後刻 御宮 御霊屋内見之儀申達奉存候
明朝相勤候節勤方等承合万事心添給候様申述
今日本宮其外所々見物致度旨咄置退散之節
次之間迄送ル
但明日 御名代相済候注進状御本坊ニ而封し候
先格候得共明日差懸り間合も有之間敷候間
家来ゟ懸合案文等為見候而封し置候義申談置
一日光御目代大原大蔵金子助三郎書院正面ニ向次之間ニ
並居罷出対話自分 御名代被 仰付候宜頼入候段
及挨拶引
一御門主ゟ為御使御用人乙葉美濃守を以被下候御菓子
先達而来候付座敷上之方ニ毛氈敷居置無程美濃守
見へ候付次之間迄出迎致案内書院江通し口上
承之御菓子折之前江相越頂戴挨拶無之勝手江入
菓子吸物出之相済而罷出左之通申演
御門主愈御安泰被成御座珍重之御儀奉存候
旅宿為御尋御使被成下殊ニ一種被下置忝仕合
奉存候御請之儀宜申上可被下候
右之通申述候上少し上り自分及挨拶帰之節式台迄送ル
一客対相済入湯清メ候而《割書：熨斗目｜半上下》着用九時過出宅ニ而御本坊江参上
但石坂下敷石之所ニ而下乗
照尊院者先江参り御玄関江出迎取次両人下座薄縁江
出執当円覚院御留守居浄土院御門主家司等式台江
出迎致案内一通り之致挨拶刀ハ提上り着座致し候
御座敷之縁通り御敷居外ニ差置着座之上執当江
左之趣申述之

公方様 大納言様益御機嫌克被成御座候旨手前
現代語訳
座を少し下がり、「この度二十日に御名代を仰せ付けられ、ありがたく存じます。
また御宮・御霊屋への自分の拝礼も伺いの通り相済み、これもまた
ありがたい」旨を申した後、「御宮・御霊屋内見の件」を申し達しました。
「明朝相勤める節の勤め方等をお教えください。万事心添えくださるよう」申し述べ、
「今日本宮その外所々を見物したい」旨話して置き、退散の節は
次の間まで送りました。
ただし明日の御名代が済んだ旨の注進状は御本坊にて封印します。
先例はありますが、明日は差し迫っており間に合わないでしょうから、
家来から打ち合わせて案文等を見せてもらって封印して置く件を申し談じて置きました。
一、日光御目代大原大蔵・金子助三郎が書院正面に向かい、次の間に
並んで座っており、退出して対話し、自分が御名代を仰せ付けられた件について「よろしくお頼み申します」という段で
挨拶を交わしました。
一、御門主からの御使いとして、御用人乙葉美濃守を通じて下された御菓子について、
先ほど来ると言っていたので、座敷の上の方に毛氈を敷いて置きました。程なく美濃守が
見えたので、次の間まで出迎えして案内し、書院へ通して口上を
承り、御菓子の折の前へ進んで頂戴し、挨拶なしに勝手（台所）へ入り、
菓子・吸物を出して済ませて退出しました。左の通り申し述べました。
「御門主におかれましてはますます御安泰でいらっしゃり、珍重なことと存じ奉ります。
旅宿へのお見舞いとして御使いを遣わされ、殊に一種（の品）を下され、幸いなことと
存じ奉ります。御請けの件、よろしく申し上げてください」
右の通り申し述べた上で、少し座を上がって自分で挨拶し、帰る節は式台まで送りました。
一、来客への対応が済んで入浴して身を清め、《熨斗目半上下》を着用し、九時過ぎに出発して御本坊へ参上しました。
ただし石坂下の敷石の所で下乗しました。
照尊院は先に参っており、御玄関へ出迎えに、取次両人が下座の薄縁へ
出て、執当円覚院・御留守居浄土院・御門主家司等が式台へ
出迎えして案内し、一通りの挨拶をしました。刀は提げ上がって着座し、
御座敷の縁通りの御敷居外に差し置いて着座の上、執当へ
左の趣を申し述べました。
「江戸表において、
公方様・大納言様におかれましてはますます御機嫌よくていらっしゃる旨、手前

Moving down slightly in seating, I said, "This time on the 20th I was appointed as deputy, for which I am most grateful.
Also, my personal worship at the shrine and mausoleum was completed as planned, for which I am also grateful." After this, I discussed "the matter of inspecting the interiors of the shrine and mausoleum."
I stated, "Please teach me the proper procedures for tomorrow morning's duties and provide guidance in all matters," and mentioned "Today I would like to visit and observe the main shrine and other locations." When departing, I escorted him to the next room.
However, tomorrow's notification letter regarding completion of the deputy duties will be sealed at the main temple.
Though there is precedent, since tomorrow is imminent and there may not be enough time,
I arranged to have my retainer coordinate and review the draft text before sealing it.
1. The Nikko deputy governors Ohara Okura and Kaneko Sukesaburo were seated facing the front of the study hall, lined up in the next room. They withdrew for conversation, and regarding my appointment as deputy, we exchanged greetings with "please rely on me favorably."
1. Regarding the sweets sent from the gate master through chamberlain Otoba Mino-no-kami as his messenger,
Since word had come earlier of their arrival, I had felt carpet laid in the upper part of the reception room. Soon Mino-no-kami appeared, so I went out to greet him at the next room, guided him to the study hall, and received his oral message.
I approached before the box of sweets, received them respectfully, and without formal greeting went to the kitchen area where sweets and soup were served before withdrawing. I stated the following:
"The gate master is increasingly in good health, which I consider a precious matter.
He has sent a messenger to inquire after my travels and has especially bestowed gifts, which I
consider most fortunate. Please convey my acceptance favorably."
After stating the above, I moved up slightly in seating to give my own greetings, and when he departed I escorted him to the ceremonial entrance.
1. After receiving guests was completed, I bathed for purification, put on formal dress (noshi-me half-dress), and departed after 9 o'clock to visit the main temple.
However, I dismounted at the paved stone area below the stone slope.
Shōson-in had arrived earlier and came out to greet at the main entrance. Two attendants came out to the thin mat in the lower seating area,
and the executive Engaku-in, caretaker Jōdo-in, the gate master's house administrator and others came out to greet at the ceremonial platform,
provided guidance, and exchanged customary greetings. I carried my sword up and took my seat.
After placing it outside the threshold along the veranda of the reception room and taking my seat, I stated the following to the executive:
