One: The head priest Shugakuin is also serving as imperial messenger this year, so all handling matters are conducted by the imperial messenger's office.
One: After the guest reception was completed,
I proceeded to the mausoleum and dismounted at the front of Hokkedo Hall. Outside the Imperial Plaque Gate, I left the palanquin bearers and proceeded with my steward, caretaker, and two sword attendants. At the bottom of the stone steps of Yaiba Gate, I changed into straw sandals, and at the top of the slope, I handed my sword to the sword attendant and proceeded.
Ryukoin came out to greet me at this place and explained in detail the ceremony for tomorrow morning when I would serve as deputy representative. Regarding the matter of serving as deputy representative at the Treasure Pagoda tomorrow, he informed me that interior viewing of the Treasure Pagoda would not be possible. After this was completed, according to precedent, one would tour various places with temple lodging guidance, and although I had seen them many times during the Tenmei era, this time due to my foot pain, I omitted this ceremony and went directly to the temple, where meals were served, and I returned to my inn before seven o'clock.
October 8th
One: Around the time lanterns were lit, I departed directly from the inn wearing formal court dress (bestowed noshime) (carrying a fan), and proceeded directly.
I dismounted at the front of the mausoleum's Hokkedo Hall, and from here I proceeded accompanied only by my steward, caretaker, and palanquin attendant. The temple lodging Homon-in and the deputy abbot came out to greet and guide me to Niomon Gate.
From in front of the mausoleum, I proceeded to wait upon Head Priest Ryukoin, who came out to greet me and led me to the study. A tobacco tray was brought out. Of course, I remained properly restrained. Mino-no-kami was indisposed today as well and could not come out. Since the two deputy representatives had come out earlier, I conversed and waited. Before long, the two deputy representatives along with Ryukoin came together, and ahead...
