を導（みちびか）んと云て大 馰屐（くけき）【注①】を着け痩鳩（そうきう）杖をひき
巉巌を𨂻（ふ）み嶮岨（けんそ）を陟（のぼ）る事 飄（ ひやう）々として坦途（たんと）
を行くが如く談笑（たんせう）して先 駆（く）す山路 遥（はる）かに
里 許（ばかり）を下て彼 渓（たに）水の《振り仮名：所￣に｜ところに》到て即ち曰く此の流水
に随（したが）ひ下らば必ず白川の邑（ゆう）に到（いた）らむと云て
惨然（さんぜん）として別（わか）る且（しば）らく柴立（さいりつ）して幽か回歩（くはいほ）
を目送するに其 老歩（らうほ）の勇壮（ゆうさう）なる事 飄然（ひやうぜん）
として世を遁（のが）れて羽 化（け）して登仙（とうせん）する人

を案内しよう」と言って、大きな木靴を履き、痩せた杖を引いて、切り立った岩を踏み、険しい崖を登ることが、ひらりひらりと平坦な道を行くようで、談笑しながら先導する。山路を遥か一里ほど下って、あの谷川のところに到ると、すなわち言うことには「この流水に従って下れば必ず白川の村に到るであろう」と言って、悲しそうに別れる。しばらく立ち止まって、その幽人が戻っていく歩みを見送ると、その老人の歩みの勇ましく壮健なことは、ひらりと世を逃れて羽化して仙人になる人

I felt both envy and reverence. I lamented that I would not be able to follow and learn from such a person until the end of my life. Gradually returning home, I practiced that inner contemplation from time to time, and in less than three years, my various previous ailments were naturally eliminated without using medicine or borrowing acupuncture and moxibustion. Not only did it cure illness, but regarding those fundamental matters that were previously difficult to believe, difficult to penetrate, difficult to understand, and difficult to enter - where I could not move my hands and feet, could not bite down with my teeth - I penetrated to the very root of that essential point.
