謂（いは）ゆる神仙（しんせん）錬丹（れんたん）の至要（しよう）なりと是故（このゆへ）に世（よ）の
好事（こうず）の君子（くんし）是（これ）をおもふ事 荒旱（こうかん）の雲霓（うんげい）の
如し偶（たま）〳〵雲水（うんすい）の徒侶（とりよ）竊（ひそ）かに伝写（てんしや）し来る
あるも秘重（ひちう）し珍蔵（ちんざう）して人おして見せしめず
天瓢（てんひやう）むなしく櫃（ひつ）におさめて匿（かく）したるが如（こと）し
願（ねかは）くは是を梓（し）に寿（いのちな）がふして以て其 渇（かつ）を慰（い）
せん聞く老師 常（つね）に人を利（り）するを以て老後（らうこ）
を楽（たの）しみ給ふと若（もし）夫（それ）人に利あらば師 豈（あ）

に是を吝しみ給はんやと二虎（にこ）含（ふく）み来て師に呈（てい）
す師 微（ひ）〱として笑ふ此において諸子 旧書（きうしょ）櫃（き）
を開（ひら）けば草稿（さうこう）蠹魚（ときよ）の腹（はらの）中に葬（ほうむ）らるゝ者 中（なか）葉（ば）
に過（すぎ）たり諸子即ち訂正（ていせい）伝写（でんしや）して既（すで）に五十 来（らい）
紙（し）を見る即ち封裹（ほうくは）して以て京師（けいし）に寄（よ）せん
とす予が馬歯（はし）一日も諸子に長（ちやう）たるを以て其
端（たん）由（ゆ）を書（しよ）せん事を責（せ）む予も亦 辞（し）せずして
出す云く師 鵠林（こくりん）に住（ちう）すること大凡四十年 鉢（ほ）

いわゆる神仙の錬丹術の最も重要な要諦であると。この故に世の好事家の君子たちがこれを求めることは、日照りの時に雲や虹を待つようなものである。たまたま雲水の修行僧たちがひそかに書き写して持参することがあっても、秘蔵し珍重して人に容易に見せようとしない。まるで天瓢をむなしく櫃の中にしまって隠しているようなものである。願わくはこれを版木に彫って出版し、もってその渇望を慰めたい。聞くところによれば、老師は常に人を利益することを老後の楽しみとされているとのこと。もしそれが人の利益になるのであれば、師はどうしてこれを惜しまれるでしょうか」と、二つの理由を込めて師に申し出た。師は微かに笑われた。そこで弟子たちが古い書物の櫃を開けてみると、草稿で紙魚（しみ）の腹の中に埋もれてしまったものが半分を超えていた。弟子たちはすぐに訂正し書き写して、すでに五十枚余りを仕上げた。そこで包装して京都に送ろうとした。私の馬歯（年齢）が一日でも弟子たちより長けていることから、その経緯を書くことを求められた。私もまた辞退せずに筆を取って言う。師が鵠林に住まわれること大凡四十年、鉢

This is said to be the most essential principle of the immortals' elixir refinement. Therefore, the gentleman scholars of the world who are interested in such matters long for this like clouds and rainbows during a severe drought. Even when occasionally wandering monks secretly copy and bring these texts, they keep them as precious secrets and do not easily show them to others. It is as if they store empty gourds uselessly hidden away in chests. We wish to carve this onto printing blocks and publish it to comfort such thirst for knowledge. We hear that the master always takes pleasure in his later years by benefiting people. If this would benefit people, how could the master be stingy with it?" With these two arguments, they presented their request to the master. The master smiled faintly. Thereupon, when the disciples opened the chest of old books, they found that more than half of the manuscripts had been buried in the bellies of bookworms. The disciples immediately corrected and copied them, completing over fifty sheets. They then wrapped them to send to the capital (Kyoto). Since my age exceeds that of the disciples by at least a day, I was asked to write about the circumstances.
