義勇も、これより起る奇品なるが故に、その功用の大な
ること、挙（アゲ）て言（イフ）べからざるものあればなり、然るときには、
此物を単（ヒトヘ）に用て止（ヤマ）ざるときには、人の人たる道は、これに
よつて知ことを得て、彼（カノ）東郭（トウクワイ）墦間（ハンカン）の祭者（サイシヤ）に、其（ソノ）余（アマリ）を乞（コフ）
ところの醜態（キタナキワザ）は、自（オノヅカラ）放遣（ウチヤリ）て、艶羨（シタヒウラヤム）の心思（コヽロ）を尽（コト〴〵ク）銷燼（ケシツク）す、必効
あることも、試（コヽロミ）て自得（ジトク）すべきものなり、此（カク）のごとき霊験（クシビノシルシ）
ある四品を合和（クミアハセ）、相互（アヒタガヒ）に佐（タスケ）て効（コウ）用を見（アラハ）すべきものな
れば、挙（アラユル）天下（ヨノナカ）の士人をして、此四 維（イ）湯を服（モチヒ）て懈怠（オコタル）ことなか
らしむれば、此邦 天稟（ウマレツキニ）受用（ウケモタルトコロ）の義勇おのづから発現（アラハレイデ）て、我
一を以て他（ホカ）の百千に当（アタル）ことを得るより、国家の衛気（マモリノキ）おのづ

から張（ハリ）拡（ヒロガリ）て、虚隙（スキマ）なきにいたれば、外虜（ヱビス）の覬覦（ウカヾフ）べき釁竅（スキマ）
こそなく、宝祚（ハウソ）を磐石（バンジヤク）の安（ヤスキ）に置（オキ）、天壌（アメツチ）とくそに窮（キハマリ）なき、我
日本国の威稜（イヅ）を、万国の外までも炫燿（カヾヤカサ）んこと、豈（アニ）適悦（ヨロコバシキ）
ことならずや、
四逆湯
附子《割書：一戔二分より、｜二戔にいたる、》乾薑《割書：八分より、一戔｜二分許にいたる、》
甘草《割書：五分より、七｜八分にいたる、》
右三味、水一合五勺、文火を以て煎じて、六勺にいたる也、
すべて附子の多く入たる剤は、漫（ユルキ）火にて濃（コク）煎じるをよ
しとす、《割書：もし人参を加るときには、一貼に、一戔以上より、二戔許に｜いたり、水は二合を八勺に煎してよし、》

義勇も、これより起こる奇品であるが故に、その功用の大なること、挙げて言うべからざるものがあるからである。然るときには、この物を単純に用いて止まざるときには、人の人たる道は、これによって知ることを得て、かの東郭墦間の祭者に、その余りを乞うところの醜態は、自ずから捨て去って、艶羨の心思をことごとく消し尽くす、必効あることも、試して自得すべきものである。このような霊験ある四品を合和し、相互に助けて効用を現すべきものなれば、あらゆる天下の士人をして、この四維湯を服用して怠ることなからしむれば、この邦が天稟に受用するところの義勇おのずから発現して、我一を以て他の百千に当たることを得るより、国家の衛気おのずから

Righteous courage also arises from this extraordinary substance, and therefore its great efficacy cannot be fully expressed in words. When one continues to use this substance without stopping, one can thereby know the way of being human, naturally abandoning the shameful behavior of begging for leftovers from the sacrificial offerings at Dongguo cemetery, completely eliminating thoughts of envy and covetousness - this certain efficacy can be tested and experienced for oneself. Since these four spiritually effective substances should be combined together, mutually assisting each other to manifest their efficacy, if all the scholars under heaven were made to take this Four Cardinal Virtues Decoction without neglect, the righteous courage that this country naturally possesses would manifest of itself, enabling one person to match a hundred or thousand others, and thus the protective energy of the nation would naturally

expand and strengthen until there are no gaps, leaving no openings for foreign barbarians to covet. Placing the imperial throne in rock-solid security and making the majesty of our Japan shine beyond all nations, lasting as long as heaven and earth - would this not be most delightful?
Four Counterflow Decoction
Aconite {{small text: from 1.2 qian to 2 qian}} Dried Ginger {{small text: from 8 bu to about 1.2 qian}}
Licorice {{small text: from 5 bu to 7-8 bu}}
The above three ingredients: use 1.5 gō of water, decoct with gentle fire until it becomes 6 shaku.
Generally, for prescriptions containing much aconite, it is best to decoct slowly and thickly over low fire. {{small text: If adding ginseng, use from over 1 qian to about 2 qian per dose, and decoct 2 gō of water down to 8 shaku}}
