There are discrepancies as stated above. When the 10-year term expired, I went to Yoshidaya Kanzō's place to negotiate, but since Rokubei had gone to Edo and was absent, there was nothing that could be done. He earnestly requested an extension from the 8th month until the 8th month of the Year of the Rat (Tempō 11, 1840) - a period of five years in between - so I extended it as requested. Even after Rokubei returned home, he offered no greetings, and even after the term expired, there was no consultation whatsoever. Since the contract document stated that upon expiration of the term, he could possess it permanently through mutual agreement, and this matter had been settled, I have left it as abandoned land.
First, my elder brother Rihei had outstanding debts to Eirakuya Yasaburō of Ōmi Province for textile goods. During the conflagration in Tempō 5, Year of the Horse (1834), a large quantity of substitute goods was destroyed by fire, making it difficult to pay the outstanding amount. Therefore, he submitted a promissory note for 100 ryō as a loan and negotiated for an extension, which was agreed upon. Later, when elder brother Rihei was residing in Kamiho-machi, he paid 40 ryō to Eirakuya, but since he could not repay the remaining 60 ryō, it was agreed that he would mortgage his house and residential property in his family home of Kitafukuchi Village. However, since the official seals and such could not be prepared immediately, in the meantime, he handed over the mortgage certificate that had been kept from Rokubei, and Rihei...
