絵（ゑ）の具（く）にもつかふなり
○貝（かい）るい象牙（さうげ）角（つの）るいに文字（もし）又は絵（ゑ）を生（うま）れつきの
やうにあらはす妙方
せしめうるしにて何（なに）なりとも心のまゝに書（かき）てよく乾（かは）かし生酢（きす）に
廿目はかり漬（つけ）おき酢（す）をさりうるしをみがき落（おと）せはその漆（うるし）の
あと自然（しせん）と文字（もし）高（たか）く鮮（あさやか）に見え天然（てんねん）の文字（もじ）のごとくみゆる也
○光沢布（くはうたくふ）の法
浅黄（あさき）木綿（もめん）一尺に切（きり）り水にそゝき石灰（いしはい）の気をよく去（さ）り乾（かはか）し
十文字にしんしをはり其上（そのうへ）へイホタラウをうすく平（たひ）らかにふり

現代語訳
絵の具にも使うのである。
○貝類・象牙・角類に文字または絵を生まれつきのように現す妙方
摺り漆で何でも心のままに書いてよく乾かし、生酢に二十日ばかり漬けておき、酢を去り漆を磨き落とせば、その漆の跡が自然と文字高く鮮やかに見え、天然の文字のごとく見えるのである。
○光沢布の法
浅黄木綿を一尺に切り、水に浸して石灰の気をよく去り乾かし、十文字に芯紙を張り、その上へヨードタローを薄く平らかに振り

Write anything you desire with grinding lacquer, dry it well, soak in raw vinegar for about twenty days, remove the vinegar and polish off the lacquer - the lacquer traces will naturally appear as raised characters, clear and vivid, looking like natural lettering.
○Method for glossy cloth
Cut light yellow cotton cloth to one shaku in length, soak in water to remove lime thoroughly and dry, paste backing paper in a cross pattern, and sprinkle iodine compound thinly and evenly on top.
