極めて、年老い積もって、高位に及べり。その嫡子、松倉長門守に跡式滞りなく仰せ付けられ、有り難きこと、挙げて数うべからず。江戸に控えて詰め、出仕に疎きことなし。ある時、鉄砲の者の中に、小才覚相応なる者を見立て、万事を彼一人に任せ、国の仕置きのことは申すに及ばず、譜代・相伝の家の子まで己が下知に従わしむる。かの男が芸能には、利潤・倍々、切弁なることばかりを、明けても暮れても密談す。案の如く、幾程なきに、騒論出来て、馬上四十四五騎、取り退き、皆新座者になり変わる。それより、なお出頭勝りて、一人当千の思いをなし、陰にては悔むことありしかども、目を引き、袖を控えて、万に構う者、一人もなきと相聞こゆ。かようの者、魔となりて、家の滅ぶこと、

He reached the extreme of old age and attained high rank. His eldest son was appointed as Matsukura Nagato-no-kami to succeed him without incident, and the gratitude for this was beyond counting. He served faithfully in Edo, never neglecting his duties at court. At one time, among his gunners, he selected a man of moderate cunning and entrusted all matters to this one person alone. Not only matters of provincial administration, but even hereditary retainers and traditional family retainers were made to follow his commands. Regarding this man's abilities, they would secretly discuss nothing but profit, multiplication of gains, and clever schemes from morning till night. As expected, before long disputes arose, and forty-four or forty-five mounted retainers withdrew, all becoming masterless samurai. From then on, this man's influence grew even stronger, and he acted as if he were worth a thousand men.
