りて。そうころひ。するもの。これおほし。そのとき。
所司代（しよしたい）。板倉（いたくら）。伊賀守。勝重（かつしけ）。しゆ々【注】。けいりやくを。
めくらされけれとも。ちくしやう。正直（しやうぢき）の。やつ
ばらなれは。一たび。きゝ入て。ひるがへす。ことなし。
いのちを。つゆほども。をしまざれは。さながら。
後生（ごしやう）事といへは。すり。強盗（がうたう）の。ざいくわにも。をこ

右、洛中の町人、裏屋、貸家の尼、妙心寺周辺、辺土、辺内、ことごとく詮索いたしますけれども、内心にわだかまりがあって、偽って転んだふりをする者がこれ多し。その時、所司代板倉伊賀守勝重は、種々の計略を巡らせたけれども、畜生は正直な奴輩であるから、一度聞き入れて翻すことなし。命を露ほども惜しまないので、そのまま後生の事と言えば、盗みや強盗の罪科にも及ばれず、いかがしようかと案じ煩いなさる、と

Regarding this, the townspeople of Rakuchū, those in back alleys, nuns in rental houses, around Myōshin-ji temple, the outlying lands, the border areas - although they conducted thorough investigations everywhere, many harbored [Christian faith] in their hearts and only pretended to apostatize. Because they did not value their lives even as much as a dewdrop, and since they spoke of it purely as a matter of the afterlife, they could not be reached even through crimes of theft or robbery [as threats], and [Itakura] was troubled wondering what to do.
