【Right page】 Three Nourishments (by Dongpo) Be content with one's lot to nourish good fortune Relax the stomach to nourish qi Save expenses to nourish wealth【These three lines are written in the style of a hanging scroll】 If people who cultivate themselves and manage their households hang these Three Nourishments on the wall in their daily lives and trust in them, they cannot know how much good fortune and virtue will be achieved throughout their lifetime. 【Left page】 Dwelling Places ○People should choose where to dwell carefully. Depending on the local customs of the land, there are not only disease and evil influences, but also variations in human talent, so one must be cautious. Therefore, the Analects also says: "The Master said, 'It is beautiful when the neighborhood is benevolent. If one chooses not to dwell in benevolence, how can one attain wisdom?' He also said, 'The unbenevolent cannot long endure hardship, nor can they long enjoy happiness. The benevolent find peace in benevolence; the wise find benevolence profitable.'" This refers to the principles of maintaining health and life. ○The ancients said, "Those who dwell in high places have long-lived qi," and also said, "Mountain dwellers are long-lived." ○Xunzi said, "When mugwort grows among hemp, it becomes straight without support. The roots of orchids and scholar trees become fragrant. Therefore, the gentleman must choose his neighborhood when dwelling, and associate with scholars when traveling. This is the way to prevent evil and deviation and draw near to uprightness." ○The Zuo Zhuan says, "Where the soil is thick and water deep, those who dwell there do not fall ill." ○The Book of Liang says, "Tao Hongjing loved the sound of wind in pine trees. His courtyards were all planted with pines. Whenever he heard their sound, he became joyful and took pleasure in it. Sometimes he would wander alone among springs and rocks, and those who saw him considered him to be an immortal." ○Gan Bao's Records of Searching for Spirits says, "A dwelling uses topographical features as the body, spring water as blood vessels, and the land as
