私は、去年の寅年8月に備前岡山の船に雇われて江戸回りの仕事をしていましたが、海上で暴風に遭い異国に漂流いたしました。去年の卯年12月に中国船によって送り届けられたため、この度お呼び返しいただき、本日お召し出しを受け、難船の一部始終ならびにかの地の様子を詳細に申し上げるよう仰せつけられ、謹んで以下のように申し上げます。
一、一昨年の寅年7月、大坂上りの船の水夫として雇われ、在所を出立して上り、大坂へ川入りいたしました所、備前国岡山の多賀屋金十郎所有の千八百石積みの「神力丸」という船が川入りして修理をしておりました。その時、この船に雇われ、直ちに備前岡山まで参り、同所において御米千七百石ほど、ならびに御家中の

I was employed on a ship from Bizen Okayama in the eighth month of last year (year of the Tiger) for work on the Edo circuit, but encountered a severe storm at sea and drifted to foreign lands. In the twelfth month of last year (year of the Rabbit), I was delivered back by a Chinese ship. Therefore, having been summoned back this time and called forth today, I have been ordered to give a detailed account of the complete circumstances of the shipwreck as well as the conditions of that foreign land. I humbly report as follows:
First, in the seventh month of the year before last (year of the Tiger), I was employed as a sailor on a ship bound for Osaka. I departed from my home village and traveled up to Osaka, where I entered the river port. There, a ship called "Shinriki-maru" with a capacity of 1,800 koku, owned by Tagaya Kinjūrō of Bizen Province Okayama, had entered the river for repairs.
