一、人物について：身長は普通で、男女ともに顔色は黒い方で、髪も黒い。目は日本人とさほど変わらない。男性は短髪で、絹や木綿で茶台のように作った帽子をかぶり、様々な色がある。ラシャや木綿などで筒袖の短い着物を着て、胸をボタン掛けにして締め、木綿などの股引と革靴を履く。役人のような者はスペインから来ている者だという。黒いラシャの衣服に肩に金の房を下げ、軍陣にいるような体裁で、車の上に箱のような物を載せ、その上に乗って馬に引かせ、男女とも乗っているのを見かけた。女性の髪は長く後ろに下げて巻いている。衣類は男性と同様の仕立てで裾まで長くあるものを着て、染色様々な結布や木綿などで長い腰巻をし、男性と同様の靴を履く。水夫のような者は粗末な着物を着て、靴はなく素足でいるという。

一、食物について：米飯、海老、その外見慣れない小魚または大魚の切り身、里芋、菜は大根、南瓜などがある。スプーンまたは箸で食べ、日本とさほど変わらないが、味噌はないという。

一、家作りについて：どの家も瓦葺きで、板葺きや草葺きもある。壁は白土で塗り、二階造りも見かける。下は土間または板張りなどで腰掛けを置いてある。海岸から一町ほど行った所に領事官がある。

1. Regarding the people: They are of average height, and both men and women have rather dark complexions with black hair. Their eyes are not particularly different from Japanese. Men have short hair and wear hats made of silk or cotton fashioned like tea stands, in various colors. They wear short-sleeved garments with tubular sleeves made of woolen cloth or cotton, fastened with buttons at the chest, cotton hakama-like trousers, and leather shoes. Those who appear to be officials are said to come from Spain. They wear black woolen clothing with golden tassels hanging from their shoulders, appearing as if they were in military formation, riding on box-like objects placed on carts pulled by horses, with both men and women seen riding. Women have long hair hanging down their backs in curls. Their clothing is tailored similarly to men's but extends to the hem, and they wear long waistcloths of various dyed fabrics and cotton, and shoes similar to men's. Those who appear to be sailors wear crude clothing and go barefoot without shoes.
