く漕参り候間一同力を得相振候へは異国人にて
一船に六人宛乗組罷在右之内壱人之人物之様子
相替り色黒く何れも筒袖之衣類股引をはき
帽子をかむり罷在助呉候様手振りいたし候得は
異国人も合点之様子に候得共荒波に而乗寄兼
乗移り候様異国人共手振致候に付万次郎虎
右衛門五右衛門游付乗込猶又二人嶋穴に煩罷在候
に付助呉候様仕形致し頼入候処是又合点致候様
に有之万次郎五右衛門は壱艘之伝間船へ為乗
組直に本船へ乗戻虎右衛門は一艘之船に差置
異国人六人之内壱人島へ游上り岩穴へ参り手振
を以同道可致旨申候に付伝蔵十助相驚き詞懸
候得共言語不通猶予之内右異人伝蔵を抱候て
礒際へ連行候節伝間船参り居虎右衛門乗罷在
候を初而及見相歓ひ候儀に而猶又右異国人立戻
十助を連参り候処伝間より縄を投渡し右縄

船へ乗移り五人一同落合候処右船頭躰之者より

く漕いでやって来ましたので、一同力を得て振り続けたところ、異国人でした。一船に六人ずつ乗り組んでおり、その内の一人の人物の様子は他と違って色黒く、皆筒袖の衣類に股引を履き、帽子を被っていました。助けてくれるよう手振りで示すと、異国人も理解した様子でしたが、荒波のため近寄りにくく、乗り移るよう異国人たちが手振りで示したので、万次郎、虎右衛門、五右衛門が泳いで乗り込みました。さらにもう二人が島の穴で病気で伏せていることを、助けてくれるよう身振りで頼んだところ、これも理解してくれた様子でした。万次郎と五右衛門は一艘の伝馬船に乗り組んで、すぐに本船に乗って戻り、虎右衛門は一艘の船に残されました。

Each boat had six men aboard, and among them was one person whose appearance was different from the others—he was dark-skinned. They all wore tube-sleeved clothing and hakama-like trousers, and wore hats. When we gestured for help, the foreigners seemed to understand, but due to the rough waves they could not come close. The foreigners gestured for us to swim out and board their boats, so Manjirō, Toraemon, and Goemon swam out and climbed aboard. We further indicated through gestures that two more men were sick in the island cave and asked for help, which they also seemed to understand. Manjirō and Goemon boarded one of the small boats and immediately returned to the main ship, while Toraemon was left on one of the boats.
One of the six foreigners swam to shore and came to the rock cave, indicating through gestures that he wanted to accompany them. Denzō and Jūsuke were startled and called out, but the language did not communicate. After some time, this foreigner carried Denzō to the water's edge. At that moment, a small boat arrived with Toraemon aboard—seeing each other for the first time in this situation, they rejoiced. The foreigner returned again and brought Jūsuke. A rope was thrown from the small boat, and grasping this rope, they were pulled up and immediately rowed back to the main ship. Before seven o'clock in the evening, they boarded the main ship and all five were reunited. There, what appeared to be the ship's captain questioned them about something, but they could not understand the words. However, it seemed they understood that we were Japanese people, and that we had been shipwrecked and stranded on the island.
