一本編中那覇ヲ距ル、凡ソ幾里トアルハ。里程元
標ヨリ各役所、若クハ各番所ニ距ルノ里程ニ
シテ。之ヲ町數ニ止メ。戸數人口モ。亦大槪ヲ擧
クルヲ以テ十位ニ止ム。其末數ハ皆之ヲ畧ス。
一此書ハ。小學生徒ノ爲ニ。編成シタル書ナレハ。
力メテ簡單ノ熟字ヲ使用シ。讀ミ且解シ易カ
ラシム。又地名ノ類ニハ。字傍ニ雙線ヲ施シ。官
衙社寺及ヒ邸第姓名等ニハ。單線ヲ施シテ。以
テ讀者二便ニス。

努めて事実を取り、虚飾を去り、更に校訂を重ねること数回、ついに活版印刷に付し、我が県下の学童をして、本国の形勢をおおよそ知らしめようとするものである。

一、本編中「那覇を距ること、およそ何里」とあるのは、里程元標より各役所、もしくは各番所に至る里程であって、これを町数に止め、戸数人口も、また大概を挙げるために十の位に止める。その末数はみなこれを略する。
一、この書は、小学生徒のために編成した書であるから、努めて簡単な熟字を使用し、読みかつ理解しやすくする。また地名の類には、字の傍に二重線を施し、官庁や社寺及び邸宅姓名等には、単線を施して、もって読者の便宜を図る。

We endeavored to gather facts, remove embellishments, and conducted repeated revisions several times. Finally, we committed it to letterpress printing, intending to enable the schoolchildren of our prefecture to gain a general understanding of the geographical conditions of their homeland.

1. In this compilation, where it states "approximately so many ri from Naha," this refers to the distance in ri from the milestone origin to each government office or checkpoint. These are rounded to the nearest chō, and population and household numbers are also rounded to the nearest ten for general reference, with all fractional numbers omitted.
