し、南北両岐に分かれる。南を西平安名岬といい、北を世戸岬という。その他岬角は甚だ多い。沿海は砂浜もしくは岩石で、船を泊めるべき所がない。ただ漲水港があるのみである。
島中は田畑・原野のみで山林がない。家屋建築材のようなものは、那覇または八重山に仰ぐという。
東北に向かって、東西約五里、南北約一里二十町ほど。潮水が常に東方に激流する。八重干瀬と呼んで、甚だ危険な所である。
伊良部島は漲水港より西に距ること、約一里ほどにある。周囲約四里二十町。その西南に多良間・水納の二島がある。池間島・大神島は東北に散在し、来間島は西南にある。その大きなものは周囲約三、四里。小さなものは一里に過ぎない。
物産は穀類、紺細上布、飛白、牛馬、魚介類などで、紺細上布、飛白は殊に著名である。

Extending northeast, it is about five ri east to west and about one ri and twenty chō north to south. Tidal waters constantly flow violently eastward. This is called Yae-bishi and is an extremely dangerous place.
Irabujima Island is located about one ri west of Harimizu Port. Its circumference is about four ri and twenty chō. To its southwest are the two islands of Taramajima and Minnajima. Ikemajima and Ōgamijima are scattered to the northeast, and Kurimajima is to the southwest. The larger ones have a circumference of about three to four ri. The smaller ones are no more than one ri.
Products include grains, indigo fine cloth, kasuri textiles, cattle and horses, fish and shellfish, etc. The indigo fine cloth and kasuri are especially famous.
The Yaeyama Islands are an archipelago located about sixty ri southwest of Miyako Island. They are divided into the three magiri of Miyara, Ishigaki, and Ōhama.
