全國ハ三大島、及ヒ許多ノ島嶼ヲ以テ國ヲ立ツ。
北ニ在ル一大島ヲ沖繩島ト云ヒ。其近海ニ散在
セル慶良間久米伊平屋伊江渡名喜粟國鳥島津
堅久高等ノ諸島ヲ以テ之ニ附シ。南ニ在ル宮古
八重山二大島ヲ兩先島ト云フ。其近海ニ並列セ
ル伊良部來間多良間大神池間水納武富波照間
鳩間西表小濱黑島新城與那國等ノ諸島ヲ以テ
之ニ属ス。而シテ與那國島ハ。西表島ノ西南、凡五
十里許ニアリ。台灣ヲ距ルコト甚タ遠カラス。中
ニ就キ。沖繩島最モ大ナリ。因テ本島トナシ。其名
ヲ以テ諸島ノ總稱トス。
山脉ハ國頭ノ極北邊戸西銘ノ二山ニ起リテ蟠
結シ。延テ中頭ニ移リ。蜿蜒起伏シテ。島尻ニ馳セ。
慶良間久米宮古ニ濟リ。八重山ニ赴キ。再ヒ崛起
シテ西南ニ盡ク。
山ノ高峻ナル者。國頭ニ嘉津宇岳恩納岳アリ。中

全国は三大島、および多くの島嶼をもって国を成している。北にある一大島を沖縄島といい、その近海に散在する慶良間・久米・伊平屋・伊江・渡名喜・粟国・鳥島・津堅・久高等の諸島をもってこれに付す。南にある宮古・八重山二大島を両先島という。その近海に並列する伊良部・来間・多良間・大神・池間・水納・武富・波照間・鳩間・西表・小浜・黒島・新城・与那国等の諸島をもってこれに属す。そして与那国島は、西表島の西南、およそ五十里ほどにある。台湾を距ること甚だ遠くない。中でも、沖縄島が最も大きい。よって本島となし、その名をもって諸島の総称とする。

山脈は国頭の極北辺戸・西銘の二山に起こって盤結し、延びて中頭に移り、蜿蜒起伏して、島尻に馳せ、慶良間・久米・宮古に済り、八重山に赴き、再び屈起して西南に尽く。

山の高峻なるもの、国頭に嘉津宇岳・恩納岳があり、中頭に弁ケ岳があり、八重山に於茂登岳・古見岳がある。これがその大きなもの。その他到る処に山峯が甚だ多い。

The entire territory consists of three major islands and many smaller islets forming the nation. The large island in the north is called Okinawa Island, and the various islands scattered in its nearby waters—Kerama, Kume, Iheya, Ie, Tonaki, Aguni, Tori-shima, Tsuken, Kudaka, and others—are attached to it. The two major islands in the south, Miyako and Yaeyama, are called the Ryosen Islands (Both Advanced Islands). The various islands arranged in their nearby waters—Irabu, Kurima, Tarama, Ogami, Ikema, Minna, Taketomi, Hateruma, Hatoma, Iriomote, Kohama, Kuroshima, Aragusuku, Yonaguni, and others—belong to them. The mountain ranges originate from the two mountains of Hedo and Nishime at the extreme north of Kunigami, forming coiled connections, extending and moving to Nakagami, winding and undulating, rushing to Shimajiri, crossing to Kerama, Kume, and Miyako, proceeding to Yaeyama, rising again and ending in the southwest.

Among the high and steep mountains, there are Katsuudake and Onnadake in Kunigami, Bengadake in Nakagami, and Omotodake and Komidake in Yaeyama. These are the major ones. In addition, there are very many mountain peaks everywhere.
