本島
本島ハ周回凡一百十餘里。東北ヨリ斜メニ西南
ニ至ル。綿亘凡四十里。廣袤或ハ一二里。或ハ八九
里齊シカラス。地形恰モ虬龍ノ海上ニ泛フカ如
シ。之ヲ大別シテ國頭中頭島尻ノ三地方トス。一
ニ國頭ヲ北山ト云ヒ。中頭ヲ中山ト云ヒ。島尻ヲ
南山ト云フ。更ニ又小別シテ首里那覇ノ二邑、及

本島
本島は周囲およそ百十余里。東北から斜めに西南に至る。連なっておよそ四十里。幅は或いは一、二里、或いは八、九里と一定でない。地形はちょうど龍が海上に浮かんでいるかのようである。これを大別して国頭・中頭・島尻の三地方とする。国頭を北山といい、中頭を中山といい、島尻を南山という。更にまた小別して首里・那覇の二邑、および三十五間切とする。東北隅を辺戸岬といい、西南隅を喜屋武岬という。東に伸び出ているのを勝連・知念の二岬とし、西に突き出ているのをザンパ岬とする。

The climate, being close to the tropical regions, is warm throughout the four seasons, with the scorching heat of midsummer being particularly severe. The Fahrenheit thermometer rises and falls between fifty and ninety-six to ninety-seven degrees. Even in the depths of winter, frost and snow are not seen. Vegetation remains constantly green and lush.
The products include kasuri (splashed pattern fabric), banana fiber cloth, pongee silk, fine ramie cloth, sugar, sweet potatoes, distilled spirits, rush mats, indigo, cycad, ebony, lacquerware, tortoiseshell, and pork being the most renowned, along with grains, tobacco, pottery, cattle and horses, fish and shellfish, fruits, and so forth.
Main Island
The main island has a circumference of approximately one hundred and ten ri. It extends diagonally from northeast to southwest, stretching about forty ri in length. Its width varies, sometimes one or two ri, sometimes eight or nine ri, not uniform. The topography resembles a dragon floating on the sea. It is broadly divided into three regions: Kunigami, Nakagami, and Shimajiri. Kunigami is also called Hokuzan (Northern Mountain), Nakagami is called Chuzan (Central Mountain), and Shimajiri is called Nanzan (Southern Mountain). It is further subdivided into the two towns of Shuri and Naha, and thirty-five magiri (administrative districts). The northeastern tip is called Cape Hedo, and the southwestern tip is called Cape Kyan. The eastern protrusions are called the two capes of Katsuren and Chinen, and the western protrusion is called Zanpa Cape.
