重刻中山傳信録序

この年丙戌の夏、私の友人岡瑞卿が『中山傳信録』を重刊しようとして、私に校正と序文の執筆を依頼した。私は病気で怠惰であり煩わしいことに堪えられないので、門人の永忠原に代わりに校正させた。秋になって校正が完成したので、これに序文を作って言う。

そもそも琉球が我が国と通交するようになったのは、いつから始まったのか詳しくは分からない。

Preface to the Reprinted Edition of the Chuzan Denshin-roku

In the summer of the bingxu year, my friend Oka Zuikei was about to reprint the "Chuzan Denshin-roku" (Records of Chuzan) and asked me to proofread it and write a preface. Being ill and lazy, unable to bear troublesome tasks, I had my disciple Eichū-hara do the proofreading in my place. By autumn, the proofreading was completed, so I wrote this preface:
