【Right Page】 Since there were no mast rigging, I was greatly troubled. At that time, there were three heavenly blessings that allowed me to reach the shore. First, the sea surface was flat without waves; second, the tidal water was rising and advancing toward the shore; third, there was a gentle breeze that slowly blew me forward. When I had drawn somewhat near to the shore, large waves arose and I was about to crash into the rocks. Therefore, I supported myself with a short pole and barely managed to reach the mouth of a small stream where I moored the raft. During this time, waves occasionally invaded and threatened to wet the gunpowder box, so I used my body to block and shield against the waves for about half an hour. Having truly tasted countless hardships, I finally managed to bring all the various implements onto land. I also sought here and there for a place where I could take shelter and hide. While searching, I wondered whether this land was a country or an island, whether people lived here or not - I had not yet determined this clearly. There was only one steep mountain about one ri away, and to its north I could see small peaks connected in a chain that gradually decreased in height. So I took one 【Left Page】 small gun and one large gun, along with a bag of gunpowder and lead shot, carrying them as protection for myself, and climbed the mountain. Looking from the summit, this land was an island completely surrounded on all sides by sea. I could see no other land. There were only many rocky crags rising from the sea, and separately, about three ri distant, there were two small islands. ◯Upon reflection, this land produces no grain and would likely be only a den for wild beasts. However, I encountered not a single beast. Only many birds that build nests here. These birds were all of strange forms that I did not recognize. Therefore I could not determine clearly whether they would serve as food or not. There was a great dense forest at the mountain's base, and I saw a giant bird perched in one of the large trees. I fired my gun and captured it. Startled by the explosion, all the birds in the forest flew up with great cries and departed. ◯The bird I had captured was a bird of prey, and its meat was inedible. I returned to where the raft was to establish a sleeping place. However, to lie down on the ground
