魯敏孫（ロビンソン）が漂着した島は固有の名前がない。魯敏孫が仮に名付けて「ヘット・エイランド・ハン・ワンホープ」という。これは「失意島」という意味である。
一里
里数はイギリス国の制度に従う。一里は我が国の十八町に当たる。

船中の総都督である。この書で後々言及されるものは、すなわち魯敏孫が救ったイギリス国の船長である。その名前は不明である。とりあえず職名を名前に代える。
海賊
西洋地方の未開の諸国はみな凶暴であって、海賊を業とする。

The uncivilized nations of the Western regions are all fierce and make piracy their profession.
