是は家々の入口にかけ人〳〵首にかけ申候名をはキリス。と申候但し
十文字にては無御座候末広かり横木を三本入候ものに御座候都て人の
宅へ参候節は参懸りに先仏壇へ拝し其上にて主人へ挨拶仕候
事に御座候罷帰候節も主人には暇乞不仕候ても仏壇へ拝さへ仕候へは
宜事に御座候仏の事をホシフ。と申候ホシフとは上と申事にて即
天の事を申候やうに承及申候

私ヘチコルホルへ出候節旅中万端世話に仕呉候キリロと申候
者は硝子師にて御座候故彼宅に罷在候内見物仕候石を粉
に仕山塩と小麦の粉の如き物其外に二品程交物仕候是は
承候へとも教へ不申候板硝子を吹候には先徳利の如き物に吹
筒に吹立山塩にて竪に筋を入る窑に入右の筋より二つに破
れ竹を割候やうに成申候右三方土にて塗ふさき候竃の内へ

これは家々の入口にかけ、人々が首にかけております。名前はキリストと申します。ただし、十字形ではございません。末広がりで横木を三本入れたものでございます。すべて人の家へ参る際は、参上がけにまず仏壇へ拝礼し、その上で主人へ挨拶いたします。帰る際も主人には暇乞いしなくても、仏壇へ拝礼さえすればよろしいのでございます。仏のことをホシフと申します。ホシフとは上ということで、すなわち天のことを申すように承り及んでおります。

私がペチコルホルへ出た際、旅中万事世話をしてくれたキリロという者はガラス師でございます。そのため彼の家に滞在している間に見物いたしました。石を粉にし、山塩と小麦粉のような物、その外に二品ほど混ぜ合わせます。これは聞きましたが教えてくれませんでした。板ガラスを吹くには、まず徳利のような物に吹き筒で吹き立て、山塩で縦に筋を入れ、窯に入れます。その筋から二つに破れ、竹を割るようになります。それを三方土で塗りふさいだ竃の内へ

These are hung at the entrances of houses and worn around people's necks. The name is "Christ." However, they are not in the shape of a cross. They are flared at the bottom with three horizontal bars inserted. Whenever visiting someone's house, one first pays respects at the Buddhist altar upon arrival, and only then greets the master of the house. When leaving, even if one does not take formal leave of the master, it is sufficient to pay respects at the Buddhist altar. They call Buddha "Hoshifu." "Hoshifu" means "above," which refers to heaven, as I have been told.
