時の礼儀のよしに御座候帰国願も早速相済申候扨王城の構は一向
城とは相見へ不申煉土にて土蔵作に仕或は石にて畳み五重六重に仕候
家の二重三重めに築山泉水なとを拵ふ花畑なとを作申候下地を
銅にて張其上へ土を入候ものゝ由に御座候家作の儀は王城も平
人の住居も左迄違候儀無御座候

【右丁】
時の礼儀であるとのことでした。帰国願いも早速許可されました。さて王城の構造は一向に城とは見えず、煉瓦で土蔵造りにしたり、石で五重六重に積み重ねたりしています。家の二重三重目には築山や泉水などを設け、花畑なども作っています。下地を銅で張り、その上に土を入れたものだということです。家屋の造りについては、王城も平民の住居もそれほど違いはありません。

火災のことはいかがでしょうか。
答
前述の通り、家屋は大方煉瓦などで造られているので、火災は非常にまれです。

あの土地にいる間に火事が二度ありました。二階の火事を三階では気づかないような様子で、隣家などではなおさら気づきません。つまり建物全体が焼失することはありません。家の中にある道具や内部の造作などが焼失する程度のことです。しかしながら、木で作った所はかなり火事もあると聞いています。

非常に大きな造り物です。歯車の大きさはこの国で作る水車の輪ほどに見えました。

This was the etiquette of the time. My petition to return home was also promptly granted. Now, regarding the structure of the royal palace, it does not look like a castle at all - it is built like an earthen storehouse made of brick, or piled up five or six layers deep with stone. On the second and third floors of the houses, they construct artificial hills and water features, and create flower gardens. The foundation is lined with copper and soil is placed on top. As for house construction, there is not much difference between the royal palace and commoners' residences.

What about fires?
Answer:
As mentioned above, since houses are mostly made of brick and such materials, fires are extremely rare.

During my stay in that land, there were two fires. A fire on the second floor would go unnoticed on the third floor, and neighboring houses would be even less aware of it. In short, entire buildings do not burn down. Only the furnishings inside the house or interior fittings are destroyed by fire. However, I heard that places built with wood do have quite a few fires.
Question:
I observed that there is a large self-ringing bell (clock) on top of the castle tower - is this correct?
Answer:
It is an extraordinarily large construction. The size of the gears appeared to be about as large as the wheels of watermills made in this country.
