　是かはちがひといふべからずくわしか　まじく
　おぼゆ

一題をとりて心得べきことは上品なる題の
　時は下品によむべし　下品なる題の時は
　上品によむべし
　たとへば厠なぞの題にてきたなく下品に
　よみいづれは　の事のやうにきこふる
　ものなりきたなき言葉をきれいよみ
　いづれば思の外にきこへて　　ものなり

　餞別に　たゆる　しるなし
　新宅に　くづるゝ　たゆる　跡なし
　　　　　つゞかぬ　火といふこと
　婚禮に　いぬる　出る　いや　きる
　　　　　はなるゝ　きらひ

　是にて此外も心得べし
一落書躰よむべからず

現代語訳

【右丁】
これは仮名違いというべきではない。詳しくは混同しやすいように思われる。

一、題を取って心得るべきことは、上品な題の時は下品に詠むべきである。下品な題の時は上品に詠むべきである。

例えば「厠」などの題で汚く下品に詠み出せば、普通のことのように聞こえるものである。汚い言葉をきれいに詠み出せば、思いの外にきれいに聞こえるものである。

餞別に　「絶ゆる」　「知るなし」
新宅に　「崩るる」　「絶ゆる」　「跡なし」
　　　　「続かぬ」　「火」ということ
婚礼に　「去ぬる」　「出る」　「嫌」　「切る」
　　　　「離るる」　「嫌い」

これでこの他も心得るべきである。
一、落書き体で詠むべからず。
