徳川殿へ使として此度の芳恩何れの時にか忘れ候へき
むくひ参らすへき時こそ侍るへけれと申されたり

ありと思ひしかは舎兄木下右右衛門大夫延俊 播磨国
姫路の城にたてこもつて東国の御勢の攻上らんほとを
またはやとおもひまつ山岡備前入道 道阿弥に
つきて此よしを関東に申せしに 舎兄延俊あへて
城を借さす秀秋大にいかつて延俊と中たかひして
大坂に至りそれより郡にのほりて政所の御方に参り
秀秋は内府の御方仕るへうおもひなして候と申さる
政所聞し召て大坂の兵伏見の城攻らるへしと
聞ゆわ君か兄の宰相《割書：これ勝俊か事也俊子長嘯｜申せし木下の俊子此人の事詳也》内府の
兵と共にかの城にありわ君も大坂の兵と同しくかの

引き出物を賜った。《割書：光忠の刀、黄金三百枚》秀秋はこの日、長崎伊豆守を徳川殿への使者として「この度のご恩恵をいつの時に忘れることができましょうか。必ずお報いする時が参りましょう」と申し上げた。

太閤が薨去され、同じ五年の秋、徳川殿が奥州の上杉討伐のため下向されたので、秀秋も急いで軍勢を催して奥州に下ろうとして本国を出立した。大坂の軍がまた起こって諸国の軍勢を催促する。秀秋は徳川殿のご恩恵に報いる機会は今だと思ったので、義兄の木下右衛門大夫延俊が播磨国姫路の城に立て籠もって東国の軍勢の攻め上がるのを待とうと思い、山岡備前入道道阿弥を通じてこの旨を関東に申し送ったが、義兄延俊は全く城を貸さず、秀秋は大いに怒って延俊と仲違いして大坂に至り、それより郡山に上って政所の御方に参り、「秀秋は内府の御方に仕えようと思っております」と申し上げた。
政所がお聞きになって「大坂の兵が伏見の城を攻めるということです。あなたの兄の宰相《割書：これは勝俊のことで、俊子長嘯と申した木下の俊子、この人の事は詳しい》が内府の兵と共にあの城にいます。あなたも大坂の兵と同じくあの城を攻めるなら、私があの城に入って兄弟で戦をするのは浅ましい

He was given departure gifts. [Marginal note: A sword by Mitsutada, three hundred pieces of gold] On this day, Hideaki sent Nagasaki Izunokami as an envoy to Lord Tokugawa, saying "How could I ever forget this gracious favor? There will surely come a time when I can repay you."

The Taikō passed away, and in the autumn of the same fifth year, when Lord Tokugawa departed for the campaign against the Uesugi in the northern provinces, Hideaki also hastily gathered troops and departed from his home province to go north. The Osaka forces rose again and summoned troops from various provinces. Hideaki thought this was the time to repay Lord Tokugawa's gracious favor, so he planned to have his brother-in-law Kinoshita Uemon-no-dayū Nobutoshi hold Himeji Castle in Harima Province and wait for the eastern forces to attack. He sent this message to the Kantō region through Yamaoka Bizen-nyūdō Dōami, but his brother-in-law Nobutoshi absolutely refused to lend the castle. Hideaki became greatly angry and quarreled with Nobutoshi, then went to Osaka, proceeded to Kōriyama, and reported to Mandokoro, saying "Hideaki intends to serve Lord Naifu."
Mandokoro listened and said "I hear that the Osaka forces will attack Fushimi Castle. Your brother, the Minister [Marginal note: This refers to Katsutoshi, also called Kinoshita no Toshiko Chōshō - the details about this person are well-known] is in that castle with Naifu's forces. If you also join the Osaka forces in attacking that castle, it would be shameful for me to enter that castle and have brothers fight each other
