Events unfolded such that all the allies who had been in the royal capital (Seoul) withdrew to Busan Port, and the two princes were also returned to Korea. Kiyomasa thought that the peace negotiations would not go well and that his military efforts would surely be in vain, so he attacked and destroyed Angang with his own forces, and together with other allied forces, he attacked and captured Jinju. When Korea was first attacked, Katō Kazue-no-kami Kiyomasa and Konishi Settsu-no-kami Yukinaga were designated as the vanguard. Although Yukinaga managed to enter the royal capital first, he was defeated at Pyongyang Castle and, after being thoroughly routed, retreated to the royal capital. Kiyomasa conquered the northern provinces and captured the two princes alive, demonstrating the Taikō's extraordinary prestige. Yukinaga, deeply ashamed and enraged, conspired with Ishida Jibu-shōyū Mitsunari to destroy Kiyomasa. Since Mitsunari had also long been on bad terms with Kiyomasa, he joined forces with Konishi to slander Kiyomasa. The Taikō, following Mitsunari's accusations, summoned Kiyomasa back to Japan intending to execute him. On the 28th day of the 7th month of Keichō 1 (1596), Kiyomasa arrived in Osaka, proceeded to Fushimi, and confined himself to his residence. On the night of the 12th day of the intercalary 7th month, a great earthquake struck Osaka, causing mountains to collapse and springs to burst forth throughout the Kinai region and beyond, and Fushimi Castle was damaged and collapsed. Because Kiyomasa was the first to rush to the scene and provided strict security, he received the Taikō's favor and his crimes were finally pardoned. As expected, the peace negotiations failed, and in the 7th month of the same 2nd year, Kiyomasa and Yukinaga again...
