夏の内買い込んでおく
べし。値段下値にて得
なり。さて右の図のごとく並
べ置いて段々に使うなり。

○六の段 六は禄なり。禄がなくては危なし。禄を求める工夫すべし。
禄一 案山子 案山子田舎の弓取りにて郷士のことなり。田地を買いて我が禄とし心遣いなく暮らすは第一なり。
禄二 藩中の身 藩中とは御家中の勤めなり。これは誠の侍なれども心遣いなる勤めあるゆえ第二なり。
禄三 千宅の五 千宅とは千両屋敷なり。千両屋敷の五ヶ所おあれば上々なれども侍より危うき所あれば第三なり。
禄四 北州の医 北州の医は吉原の医者なり。学問もいらず気楽にて割りのよき株なり。これ第四なり。
禄五 町衆の二 名主は町衆の一。町衆の二とは大家様なり。これも割りのよい物なれども苦労あるゆえ第五なり。
禄進が一心 何禄にても増すように心がくべし。上へ進むも下へ退くも一心にある事なり。
○七の段 これは質を置く事の損なることを繰り返して質くどく言うなり。
質一 母さん 得ては母様の物を一番に質にやりたがる物なり。かくの如くすれば親の罰にて身体直る事なし。
質二 嗅ぐ奥 二番には嚊の物をやりたがる物なり。これも遂には流れてしまうなり。後で新しく拵えるは大損なり。
質散 不自由の身 質はとかく請け出で叶わぬ散らしては不自由な物が身についた大切な物か是非請ける物をやるべし。
質利 初中後 質の利ほどうるさく付いて回る物なし。恐るべきなり。

○Sixth Level: Six means stipend. Without stipend, it's dangerous. One should devise ways to seek stipend.
Stipend One - Scarecrow: Scarecrow refers to country bowmen, meaning rural samurai. Buying rice fields to make them your stipend and living without worry is first-class.
Stipend Two - Retainer Status: Retainer status means service in a lord's household. Though these are true samurai, they have worrisome duties, so this is second.
Stipend Three - Five Thousand Estates: Thousand estates means thousand-ryō properties. Having five thousand-ryō properties would be excellent, but there are more dangerous aspects than being a samurai, so this is third.
Stipend Four - Northern Province Doctor: Northern province doctor means a Yoshiwara physician. No learning required, comfortable, and good profit margin - this is fourth.
Stipend Five - Townspeople's Second: Village headman is townspeople's first; townspeople's second means a major landlord. This is also profitable but involves hardship, so it's fifth.
Stipend Advancement as Single Focus: Whatever stipend you have, focus on increasing it. Both advancing upward and retreating downward depend on single-minded determination.
○Seventh Level: This repeatedly emphasizes the losses from pawning, speaking tediously about pawning.
Pawn One - Mother: When in need, people first want to pawn mother's belongings. Doing this brings parental punishment, and one's health never recovers.
Pawn Two - Wife's Hidden Things: Second, people want to pawn the wife's belongings. This too ultimately flows away completely. Making new things afterward is a great loss.
Pawn Scattered - Impoverished Status: With pawning, if you can't redeem items and they scatter away, causing hardship, pawn either things attached to your body, precious items, or things you can definitely redeem.
Pawn Interest - Beginning, Middle, End: Nothing follows you around as annoyingly as pawn interest. Truly fearsome.
