現代語訳
淫乱上戸
九月の出替わりは御停止で三月ほどと思えば、一層奉公人に思い入れが深くなる。この季節に奉公を始めた後ろ帯の十七、八歳の娘はまだ処女だと知って、尻のふくよかさに心を奪われてしまった。しかし親元は身元がはっきりしており、二つ名はつけるものの、一筋縄ではいかない面構えに恐れをなして、本当に手を握ったこともなく、とても実直堅固に親方を務めていたのだが、西照庵での頼母子の顔寄せで講元のもてなしに、つまらないことで酔いつぶれ、帰りは坂町か道頓堀へ落ち着くはずを、同席の下戸たちに引きずられて、何とか我が家に戻った。家内は寝入っており、例の下女が紙燭を片手に門戸を開けるのを酔眼にちらりと見て、前後のとんちゃくもなく押し倒して、たった一度が付け入りとなって、青梅を食べたいような胸のむかつきが出るのと、根こそぎゆすりぬかれ、母親の手前、女房の思惑など、さりとては酒は心の外のものではないなあ。

The Lustful Drinker
When the September changeover of servants is prohibited by the authorities for about three months, one becomes even more deeply infatuated with the serving girls. He had set his heart on the plump buttocks of a seventeen or eighteen-year-old girl who had just begun service this season, wearing her obi tied in back, knowing she was still a virgin. However, since her family background was respectable and though she used an alias, he was intimidated by her stern expression and had never even held her hand, conducting himself as a most upright and steadfast master. But at a tanomoshi gathering at Saishōan temple, he got foolishly drunk from the organizer's hospitality. On his way back, instead of settling down in Sakamachi or Dōtonbori as planned, he was dragged home by his teetotaler companions. His wife was already asleep, and when he caught a glimpse through his drunken eyes of that very servant girl opening the gate with a paper torch in her hand, he lost all sense of propriety and forced himself upon her. That single incident became his downfall - now he feels nauseous like someone craving unripe plums, completely drained of everything, and considering his mother-in-law and his wife's feelings... truly, sake is not separate from the heart!
