呑殺（のみころし）上戸（じやうこ）
呑（のむ）ことは長鯨（ちやうげい）の百川（ひやくせん）を吸（す）ふが
ごとく喰（くふ）ことは在所（さいしよ）の一家（いつけ）の
下作（したさく）の万七（まんしち）といふ男が
爰（こゝ）の祭（まつ）りに水瓜（すいくわ）壱ツもつて
来（き）て時刻（じこく）は八ツ少（すこ）し下（さが）り朝（あさ）の麦飯（むきめし）
ばらへはもの皮（かわ）の出るまにあじのやき物
米（こめ）の御飯（おめし）を手もりにして喰（くらふ）にひとしき
大強傑（たいかうけつ）なんぼのんでも酔（よひ）めも見えす
口渋（くちしぶ）りて物かずいわずおかしき事も

現代語訳
【右丁】
呑み殺し上戸
飲むことは長い鯨が百の川を吸い込むようで、食べることは田舎のある家の下働きの万七という男が、ここの祭りに水瓜を一つ持って来て、時刻は八つ時少し過ぎ、朝の麦飯腹に皮が出るまで鯵の焼き物と米の御飯を手盛りにして食べるのと同じような大食漢である。どんなに飲んでも酔った様子も見えず、口が重くて物数を言わず、面白いこともあって笑わせる身振りや物真似はもちろんできず、稀に言う落とし噺も

肝心の落ちを忘れて、何のことやらわけの分からない酒飲みである。これを「呑み殺し」と名付け、他の酒飲み仲間は怒って「南無地蔵」と呼ぶ。生きながらにして酒と肴を淵へ捨てたという心境なのであろう。

Their drinking is like a great whale sucking up a hundred rivers, and their eating is like a man named Manshichi, a farmhand from a country household, who brings a melon to the local festival and, around eight o'clock in the morning after a breakfast of barley rice, eats grilled horse mackerel until the skin shows and piles up rice by hand - such a tremendous glutton. No matter how much they drink, they show no signs of intoxication, their mouth becomes heavy and they speak few words, they cannot perform amusing gestures or mimicry that would make people laugh, and even the rare funny stories they tell

This type is called the "drink-killer," and other drinkers become angry and call them "Namu Jizo" (a Buddhist invocation). It's as if they are alive but have thrown both sake and food into an abyss - this must be their state of mind.
