現代語訳
居座り上戸
杯や盆、膳として肴や菓子がすでに付き、網塩から備前焼の酒器まで、残るものがないほどのもてなし。さあ、杯もお納めくださいと主客一同が片付けの段階になる。これからが酒の本番だぞと、酌人が眠りこけるのも気がつかず、べらべらとくだらない話を続ける。これには勝手方（台所方）も大いに困る。いつでも吐き物に生臭い灸の絶える間がない。これを「居座り酒」といって下戸たちが非常に嫌うものであるが、実は酒を好むということに変わりはない。飲みたいだけ飲んでしまったら、その席にいるのも面倒だという、そんな酒飲みはあまりにも情けない。

The Overstaying Drinker
With cups, trays, and stands, along with appetizers and sweets already served, from salted fish to Bizen pottery sake vessels - such complete hospitality with nothing left wanting. When the host and guests unanimously suggest "Now please accept this final cup" and move to the cleanup phase, this type declares "Now the real drinking begins!" They chatter away mindlessly, oblivious even to the sake server nodding off. This greatly troubles the kitchen staff, as there's never a moment's break from the stench of vomit and nausea. This is called "overstaying drinking," and while teetotalers intensely dislike such behavior, it's really just another manifestation of loving sake. Once they've drunk as much as they want, they find it bothersome to remain at the gathering - such drinkers are truly pathetic.
