　奉願上候処極々尽山ニ相成炭焼之者共一同ひっ逼迫難渋
　申出候間以　御憐愍先々之通御運上之処壱ケ年拾両宛
　ニ而御用捨被成下置候様偏ニ奉願上候尤当年之義者昨巳
　年稀成違作後ニ茂有之別段難渋之年柄ニも御座候間

現代語訳

恐れながら書付をもって嘆願いたします

一、去る卯年にお願い申し上げました炭焼きの者どもが、一年につき金三十両ずつ運上金をお納めして焼き出しをしておりますが、当春中に夫食（食料）をお願いする際に出てまいりました者は、何の心得もないまま、引き続き三十両ずつを納めることができると願い出ましたが、極めて山が尽きてしまい、炭焼きの者どもが一同困窮し難渋を申し出ております。どうか御憐憫をもって、従来通りの運上金を一年につき十両ずつにして、御用捨（減額）していただきますよう、ひとえにお願い申し上げます。なお、当年のことは昨年巳年の稀に見る凶作の後でもあり、格別に困窮する年柄でもございますので

Item: Regarding the charcoal makers who, in the previous Year of the Rabbit, were granted permission to pay an annual tribute of thirty ryō in gold and have been producing charcoal, when they came to request provisions (food allowance) during this spring, those who appeared had no proper understanding and petitioned that they could continue to pay thirty ryō annually. However, the mountains have become extremely depleted, and the charcoal makers are unanimously reporting severe hardship and distress. We humbly beseech your compassion to reduce the tribute to ten ryō per year as it was previously, granting us this relief. Furthermore, this year follows last year's extremely rare crop failure in the Year of the Snake, making it a particularly difficult year of hardship.
