判（はんし）けるなるべしいと興（けう）ありけるにやとあり
三十七番豆腐うり
ふるさとはかへのとたえにならとうふ
しろきは月のそむけさりけり
こひすれはくるしかりけりうぢ豆腐
まめ人の名をいかてとうまし
○北村（きたむら）七里といふ越（ゑち）の新潟（にゐがた）の人 別号（べつがう）を鑑亭（かんてい）といふ
俳諧（はいかい）の名家（めいか）なり豆腐を嗜（この）めるにやその
狂歌に
雁（かん）鳬（かも）は我（われ）をみすてゝ飛（とび）ゆきぬ
豆腐に翅（はね）のなきそうれしき

柔軟で毒がないことは、大医香川先生の弁明（薬選および前編百珍の後に出版）に詳しく述べられている。
なおまた、仁斎老先生の詩がある：
「歯揺き臼脱して百様難し食らい 唯覚う食中豆腐の優れるを
浩博淮南鴻列鮮 未だ如かず此の味の厚く能く柔らかなるに」
○職人づくし歌合では、それぞれ左右に分かれて歌を詠み合った。題は月と恋を出して、衆議で判定したのであろう。とても興味深いものがあったということである。
三十七番豆腐売り
「故郷は川の淀みになる豆腐
白きは月の染めざりけり」
「恋すれば苦しかりけり宇治豆腐
真面目な人の名をいかで問うまし」
○北村七里という越後の新潟の人で、別号を鑑亭という俳諧の名家である。豆腐を好んでいるのであろうか、その狂歌に
「雁鴨は我を見捨てて飛び行きぬ
豆腐に翼のなきぞ嬉しき」
英語訳
Its softness and non-toxic nature are explained in detail in the treatise by the great physician Dr. Kagawa (published after Yakusen and the first volume of Hyakuchin).
There is also a poem by the elderly master Jinsai:
"With loose teeth and fallen molars, eating everything is difficult; I only realize tofu's superiority among foods.
The vast and profound delicacies of Huainan are numerous, yet none match this flavor so rich and tender."
○In the craftsmen's poetry contest (uta-awase), participants were divided into left and right groups to compete with poems. The themes were "moon" and "love," judged by group discussion. It must have been quite entertaining.
Number 37: Tofu seller
"In my hometown, tofu forms in the river's calm waters
Its whiteness was not dyed by the moon"
"When in love, it becomes painful, Uji tofu
How can I ask the name of such an earnest person"
○Kitamura Shichiri, a person from Niigata in Echigo province, with the pen name Kantei, was a master of haikai poetry. Perhaps because he favored tofu, his kyōka reads:
"The wild geese and ducks abandon me and fly away
How delightful that tofu has no wings"
