Including the above, there were twenty-two men from the ship's crew downward, each with specialized duties. Among them, the most agile were called "yaiban" (crow squad), with two members - chief and deputy - who climbed the masts for lookout duty, ascending and descending like flying birds. The soldiers were all skilled in ship operations, with one hundred men assisting each vessel.
