【左上】
仮名手本を紙屑買いから買い集めて、眼鏡の玉へ交ぜ合わせて作れば、無筆な者でもこの眼鏡をかけるといなや、なんでも書けてくる。

無筆な者は書状文でも内で書いたらよさそうなものを、東屋へ来て書くとは、ちと見栄坊かな。

こう書いたら大方いいだろう。

【上部】
無性に筆を取って眼鏡をかければ、心に思うこと、見るもの聞くものにつけて、自然とその文字ができる。これも妙な眼鏡である。
ある時田舎者が国へ書状をやりたく思えども、もとより無筆なればかくことならず。この眼鏡をかけて書く。その文にいわく：
「いよいよご無事で何よりと存じ奉り候。確かめて言うとは、めでたいということか、思ったそれから。さて又この度下堀の事、江戸表へ相及び、店出し申し候。元手一切これあり、甚だ恐悦仕り候。これにより当七月下旬まで金三枚ご拝借くださるべく候。忘れずご返済申し入れるべく候。右の段ご了承ください。お手紙拝見仕り候。つつ、八兵衛」

硯箱の置き様があちらこちらで、それでは書きにくいからう。

When one frantically takes up the brush and puts on the spectacles, the characters naturally form based on what one thinks in their heart, what they see and hear. This too is a wondrous pair of spectacles.
Once, a country person wanted to send a letter to his home province, but being originally illiterate, he could not write. He put on these spectacles and wrote. His letter said:
"I trust you continue in good health without incident. To say for certain, does this mean it is auspicious? I thought so. Now then, regarding the matter of Shimohori this time, it has reached Edo, and I have opened a shop. I have all the capital needed, and I am extremely pleased. Therefore, I would like to borrow three pieces of gold until late July. I will not forget to repay you. Please understand this matter. I have respectfully read your letter. Sincerely, Hachibe."
