すもの干（ひ）ぐわしといふ
▲まんぢう 又（また）饅頭（まんぢう）
いづれの御代（みよ）の御事（おんこと）なりしか止事（やむこと）なき御かた
米（よね）の御ことぶきを祝（しゆく）し奉（たてまつ）るとてあふらげを
せいしあぐへきよしを仰（おほ）せ出（いだ）されけりいかゞ致（いた）し
申べくと伺（うかゞ）ひける所（ところ）八十八才のうへまでも御寿（おんことぶき）
をいわゐまし然（しか）るべくとにより一ツ百（はく）の数（かず）を
かたどり種々（しゆ〴〵）工夫（くふう）をめぐらしける所（ところ）一ツ白（はく）のはく

は麦（ばく）にかよひ又（また）上（かみ）への一（いち）はちいさくとあんじ則（すなはち）
小麦（こむぎ）にてせいしうちに餡（あん）を包（つゝみ）て餅（もち）に仕立（したて）
よろしくと申 窺（うかゞ）ひける所（ところ）しかるべしとにより
是（これ）を献（けん）じけるよつて
満寿（まんじゆ）なるべし

【右丁】
したものを干菓子という。

いずれの御代のことであったか、高貴な方の米寿（88歳）のお祝いを祝福申し上げるということで、油揚げを作って献上するようにとの仰せが出された。どのように作り申し上げればよいかと伺ったところ、「88歳の上までもお寿命をお祝いするのがよろしい」ということで、「一つ白（108）」の数にちなんで、様々な工夫を凝らしたところ、「一つ白」の「白」
【左丁】
は「麦」に通じ、また上の「一」は小さく考えて、すなわち小麦で作り、中に餡を包んで餅に仕立てるのがよろしいと申し上げて伺ったところ、「そのようにするがよい」ということで、これを献上した。よって「満寿」となったのであろう。

In some imperial reign, there was an order to prepare fried tofu to celebrate the beiju (88th birthday celebration) of a noble person. When they inquired how it should be prepared, they were told that celebrating longevity up to 88 years and beyond would be appropriate. Therefore, they devised various ideas based on the number "ippyaku" (one hundred and eight), and the "haku" (white) in "ippyaku"

corresponds to "baku" (wheat), and thinking that the "ichi" (one) above should be small, they decided to make it with wheat flour, wrapping bean paste inside and shaping it like mochi. When they presented this proposal, they were told "that would be good," so they offered this. Therefore, it probably became "manju" (full longevity).
