　く流行（りうかう）なしける爰（こゝ）かしこのさかり場（ば）にてもさか

　今（いま）さか餅（もち）なるべし
　今川焼（いまがはやき）といへるもやはり此（この）たぐひなるか

く流行したのである。ここかしこの繁華街でも盛んに製造して商売をした。今盛んであることを略して「今さか餅」と呼ぶのであろう。
「今川焼」というのも、やはりこの類いであろうか。

▲オランダにテイラとメイラという二人の兄弟がいたという。この者たちは仲睦まじく、二人で相談して菓子業を思いついた。兄のテイラは「何としても売り先を手広く、貸し出しをしよう」と申せば、弟もそのとおりだと申す。

「それならば砂糖その他も問屋を借りてこそ然るべきだ」と申した。兄は貸すことに関わり、弟は借りることに関わったので、自然と当時の人々が兄を「カステイラ」、弟を「カルメイラ」と呼び、菓子の名前となったのも面白い。
