むくゆゑ
あめは雨（あめ）の名（な）に元（もと）づくなるべし

奈良（なら）の国（くに）は朝（あさ）とくよりおき出（いづ）る国（くに）のならひ
にて小児（しやうに）といへども朝寝（あさね）をさせず短夜（みじかよ）の
ころ朝（あさ）おきかぬるに米（こめ）をいりて朝（あさ）のたべ
物（もの）にあたへぼんよおきよ〳〵と起（おこ）しては此（この）いり
米（ごめ）をくわせけるこれが常（つね）になりてねだる時（とき）は

おこし米（ごめ）くれいと申 習（なら）はしけりそれゆへ世（よ）に
おこしなるべし

飴は雨の名前に基づいているのであろう

奈良の国は朝早くから起き出る国の習慣
で、小児といえども朝寝をさせず、短夜の
頃、朝起きられないときに米を炒って朝の食べ
物として与え、「ぼんよおきよおき」と起こしてはこの炒り
米を食べさせた。これが常となって、ねだる時は

「おこし米をくれい」と申す習わしとなった。それゆえ世に
「おこし」となったのであろう。

▲Okoshi (rice confection)
The province of Nara had the custom of rising early in the morning,
and even small children were not allowed to sleep in. During the short nights,
when children couldn't get up in the morning, rice was roasted and given as morning food,
and while rousing them saying "bonyo oki yo oki" (come now, wake up, wake up), they were fed this roasted
rice. This became a regular practice, and when children would beg for it,

they would say "give me okoshi rice," which became the custom. Therefore, it came to be called
"okoshi" in the world.
