【右丁】
方へ間口四間程で二階建ての家へ連れて行かれ、通訳の者と二階へ連れて上がったところ、二間に三間程の板敷きで、前述の初太郎、初八らの者共がおり、一緒になりました。

一、この所で毛綿蒲団一つ、日本と同様の仕立ての木綿綿入れ一つ、帽子一つ、靴並びに足袋を一足ずつもらいました。もっとも帽子、靴、足袋は使い捨てでした。

一、食物は日々三度ずつで、朝は粥、昼夕は米の飯、菜は大根と油揚げの醤油煮、又は塩漬けの太刀魚を大根と煮たような品を給してもらいました。

一、その二階に前述の通り敷物を敷いた縁台のような物を置いてあり、昼は腰掛けており、夜はその上に臥しました。

一、私共九人に番人のような者二人、通訳二人、飯炊き一人、都合五人が掛かりおりました。

一、日々煙草代として銭三文ずつもらい受け、その銭で煙草を買ってもらいました。

一、三日目ごとに湯銭として六文ずつもらい受け、町筋を五丁程隔てた湯屋へ通訳の唐人等が迎えに参りました。湯壺の様子は四方を蝋石で四角にし、真ん中へ丸太を渡し、そこに腰を掛け、私共並びに唐人が入り交じって十人程ずつ入湯しました。そのもらった湯銭は通訳から相払いました。

We were taken to a two-story house with a frontage of about four ken, and went upstairs with the interpreter. In a room of about two by three ken with wooden flooring, we found the aforementioned Hatsutaro, Hatsuhachi and others, and we were all brought together.

First, at this place we each received one cotton-stuffed futon, one cotton-padded garment made in the same style as in Japan, one hat, and one pair each of shoes and tabi socks. However, the hat, shoes, and tabi were disposable items.

First, regarding food, we were given meals three times daily - porridge in the morning, and rice for lunch and dinner, with vegetables such as daikon radish and fried tofu cooked in soy sauce, or salted swordfish cooked with daikon radish and similar dishes.

First, on the second floor, bench-like objects with mats laid out as mentioned before were placed, and we sat on them during the day and lay down on them at night.

First, for us nine people, there were two guard-like persons, two interpreters, and one cook - five people in total taking care of us.

First, we received three mon coins daily as tobacco money, and tobacco was purchased for us with that money.

First, every third day we received six mon as bath money, and Chinese interpreters came to escort us to a bathhouse located about five chō away along the town streets. The bathtub was constructed with soapstone on four sides in a square shape, with a log placed across the middle for us to sit on. About ten people at a time, including ourselves and the Chinese, bathed together. The bath fees we received were paid by the interpreter.
