【右丁】
一、四月中旬の夜半頃、前段の七人の者どもが浜辺へ上陸させられました。砂浜に足跡があったので、どこか人家があるだろうと思い、私と初太郎の二人でその足跡をたどっておよそ四町程参りましたところ、屋根は棕櫚の葉のようなもので葺いてあり、間口四間程の人家が二軒ありました。入口に獣の番人のような者が一人寝ていたので呼び起こしたところ、驚いた様子だったので、難船したことを手真似で示し、助けてくれるよう頼みましたところ、分かったような様子で、すぐに水を飲ませてくれました《割書：器は鍋のようなもので手が付いている水飲みでございます》。残り五人が浜辺にいることを仕草で伝えましたところ、その家から一人が私どもに付き添って元の浜辺へ参り、五人の者を連れてその人家へ

同道いたしました。その夜、同じ場所で樹木の下に《割書：この樹木は見慣れない木でございます》牛の皮を敷いて私どもを休ませました。翌朝、その人家の男女が残らず立ち出て私どもを見物いたしました。七人のうち私、初太郎、弥吉の三人はその家の軒下へ牛の皮を敷いて置かれ、伊之助、太吉、惣助、茂三郎の四人は隣家の軒下へ同様にして置かれました。食物は朝夕二度、黍団子の類で、菜は鶏や豚の塩煮、並びに野牛の乳を絞り出して砂糖を合わせたものを給してくれました。

一、その家の様子を見受けたところ、土間で四方は土壁、飲食や寝る時は縁台を用いておりました。もっとも家の回りに木で囲いを作っております。

1. Around midnight in mid-April, the aforementioned seven men were put ashore on the beach. Since there were footprints in the sand, we thought there must be dwellings somewhere, so Hatsutaro and I followed those footprints for about four cho (approximately 440 meters). We found two houses with roofs thatched with palm-like leaves and frontages of about four ken (approximately 7.2 meters). At the entrance, a person who looked like an animal keeper was sleeping alone. When we woke him up, he seemed surprised, so we gestured to show that we had been shipwrecked and asked for help. He seemed to understand and immediately gave us water to drink. (Marginal note: The vessel was like a pot with handles for drinking water.) When we gestured that five others remained on the beach, one person from that house accompanied us back to the original beach and brought the five men to the house.

That night, at the same place, they spread cattle hide under the trees (Marginal note: These trees were unfamiliar to us) and let us rest. The next morning, all the men and women from that house came out to look at us. Of the seven people, three of us—myself, Hatsutaro, and Yakichi—were placed under the eaves of that house with cattle hide spread out, while the other four—Inosuke, Takichi, Sosuke, and Mozaburo—were similarly placed under the eaves of the neighboring house. For food, twice daily in the morning and evening, we were given things like millet dumplings, and for side dishes, salt-boiled chicken and pork, as well as wild cattle milk mixed with sugar.

1. Observing the condition of that house, it had an earthen floor with earthen walls on all four sides, and they used a raised platform for eating and sleeping. The house was surrounded by a wooden fence.
