現代語訳
この島の植木屋などはとんでもなく高慢なもので、木ぶりを直すゆえ、日本の医者のごとく駕籠に乗って歩き、また嫁や婿の世話をする。
♪息子めも時節の悪い時分に植え替えましたから、とかく木性がないと申します。ひとえにあなたをお頼み申します。
♪ご子息もちょっと枝へ針金を用いなければなりますまい。そして随分根元へ肥料でも蒔いて肥えぬようになされたがよい。
♪針金とは君、励ましの薬のようだ。

婿の木が浮気木という木になって、よその女の木へ愛しく心を寄せることなどあれば、嫁の木が嫉妬となって募るに従い、婿の木を呪うときは、男の体へ頻繁に釘を打ち込む。
