現代語訳
この島の祭りには家々の子供を花山車に仕立てて出す。金銀の箔をもって関台を彩色し、山車などを引くのに歌を歌うのを「木遣り」という。しかしこの山車の子供が中食をするときには、梯子をかけて弁当を使わす。その様子は福禄寿が逆さ髷をするのに似ている。
よい木なりの子供の木を持った者は、兄弟ながら生えたままで祭りに出す。どうかどっとほめたりという身振りのごとく、また娘の木などはそれ相応に。
石橋の装いなそのような思いつきの中にも、扇を加えて、いかにも工夫をこらした白鷺の思いつきは、この島でもよっぽど気の利いた手合いの趣向と見えた。

♪こいつはつまらない者だ。朝から晩まで物を言うことができない。扇なぞ振り回せだとは口では言わないが、そう思っている。

♪俺たちの姿は、七つ星が三つ出たような具合だ
♪よそ目からは田楽でも組んでいる
♪柏の鳥や木から落ちた猿が一番に渡るそうな
英語訳
At the festivals on this island, families dress up their children and put them on flower floats. They use gold and silver leaf to decorate the platforms, and when pulling the floats, they sing songs called "kiyari" (work songs). However, when the children on these floats eat their midday meal, ladders are set up to deliver their lunch boxes. This scene resembles Fukurokuju doing his hair in reverse.
Those who have well-formed child trees display them at the festival just as they naturally grew, keeping them as siblings. Like the gesture of somehow trying to win praise, the daughter trees are also dressed accordingly.
Among the various costume ideas, including the Shakkyō (Lion Dance) outfit, the white heron costume that incorporated a fan showed particularly clever craftsmanship and appeared to be the work of quite a witty group on this island.
