現代語訳
年月を重ねて早くも三十歳の男女が多数おり、皆それぞれ鉢植えを離れて本当の人となったので、まず気性の素直な者を選んでこの島の頭とし、子種の育て方を仏たちがお教えになった。死んだ者はその身を、出生した畑に埋めておけば、またそこから赤子の芽が出るという仕組みをお作りになったことなので、だんだんと人が生えてくるのである。同じ畑に生えた者を、これを地筋といって、家督を譲ることである。
♪この鉢植え、二十五の明け方まではずんずんと伸びる
♪鉢植えにしておいた子種の木より若君の芽が出て、また子ができることがある。武家方などではこれを御連枝という。そこで一門を門葉というものだ。
♪御木量の御生まれつきで、お家の根継ぎ、万々歳でございます

人買いといえば、日本では泥棒のように卑しむけれども、この島の人買いは畑の上より買い取って育て上げ、関大の首にかけ、介来子という身分で、養子の木などを売って歩く。
♪胎卵湿化の四生のうち、この島の人は土の湿り気より生まれるゆえ、すべて人を木といい、左右の手を枝という。それゆえ湯屋などで「ごめんなさい、枝が触ります」という。
♪この島の人、老木となり腰が曲がると、こんな杖をついて歩く
♪養子の木は入りませんか。ずいぶん素直な木ぶりの良い養子の木ですよ
♪養子の木なら寒木が呆れるだろう

Years and months passed, and soon there were many men and women of thirty years of age, all having left their potted state to become true humans. First, those with the most straightforward temperament were chosen as leaders of this island, and the Buddhas taught them how to raise the human seeds. When someone died, their body would be buried in the field where they were born, and from there new baby sprouts would emerge - this was the mechanism that was established, so people gradually grow forth. Those who grow from the same field are called "land lineage," and they inherit the family estate.

♪From the human seed trees kept in pots, young lord sprouts emerge and can have children again. In samurai families, this is called "noble branches." Thus, the whole clan is called the "gate leaves."

While "human trading" is despised in Japan like thievery, the human traders of this island buy from above the fields, raise them up, hang them around the neck of Sekidai, and as "Kairai-shi" (puppet masters), they walk around selling adopted tree-children.
♪Among the four types of birth - womb-born, egg-born, moisture-born, and transformation-born - the people of this island are born from the moisture of soil, so all people are called "trees" and the left and right hands are called "branches." Therefore, in bathhouses they say, "Excuse me, my branches are touching you."
♪When the people of this island become old trees and their backs bend, they walk with canes like this
