現代語訳
先祖より伝わる関大屋や屋敷などに大きな切り株が残っている家などは、その株があることを見込んで養子の申し込みをあちこちから言ってくるので、よくその根元を調べ、木柄の良い養子の木をもらい、家の株継ぎ木にして成長の上で家督を譲る。
♪貧乏な者は子種を養うことが難しく、まだ十個や三個のうちに引き抜いて「子どもの苗はいりませんか」と売って歩く。また悪い者どもが牛の骨や馬の骨を拾って
十個や三個によく似たものを幸いに、子どもの苗だと偽って商売することがある。それゆえこの島の勇み肌の者が太平楽には「割れるぞ、この馬の骨か牛の骨が知れない」などと言う。また根を断って枝葉を枯らすという敵役の台詞も、この島より出た言葉である。
♪貧乏人は子種の木がまだできるかできないうちに、とかく話にして鍋に入れたがるやつだ

英語訳
In houses where large tree stumps remain from ancestral times at estates and residences of the Sekidai class, adoption proposals come from all directions, seeing the potential in those existing stumps. They carefully examine the roots and receive good-lineage adopted tree-children to make them heir-grafts for their houses, eventually passing down the family estate after they mature.
♪Poor people find it difficult to raise human seeds, so while they're still just ten or three pieces, they pull them out early and walk around selling them, calling "Won't you buy some child saplings?" Also, bad people pick up cow bones and horse bones
Taking advantage of things that closely resemble the ten or three pieces, they sometimes conduct business by falsely selling them as child saplings. Therefore, the hot-blooded fellows of this island say in their boastful manner, "Watch out, you can tell this horse bone or cow bone [fake]," and such. The enemy role's lines about "cutting the roots and withering the branches" are also words that originated from this island.
♪Poor people, before their seed-trees are even ready or not, are the type who want to quickly turn them into stories and put them in the pot
