梅庵ヲ請シ入ヌ《割書:伴僧二人笠持一人挟筥一人草|履取一人駕籠ノ者四人若党二》 《割書:人上下十|二人ナリ》梅庵美服ヲ着シ名香アタリヲ薫シ当 時ハ乱世ノ砌リ未タ京ヘモ三里夜道ノ物騒物 憂ク候処一夜ノ御芳志難有候迚投宿ノ礼謝ヲ 演テ止宿ス翌朝ニ至リ母家内ニ下知シテ御僧 ノ宗旨ハ知ラネトモ若仏檀ノ尋モヤト仏間ノ掃 除等迄心附置ケレトモ客僧聊沙汰ニモ及ハス上 下母ノ饗応ヲ受ケ心遣ヒノ礼ヲ述テ帰リヌ母 思慮シテ家内ノ者ニ語リケルハ客僧ノ体体ヲ見 レハ白服緋縮緬飛色等ノ美服ヲ著シ天鵝絨ノ 襟巻甚タ尋常ノ僧ノ風体ニ異ナリ殊ニ内仏等 ヲモ尋ネス必ス新宗南蛮寺ノ僧ナルヘシトソ 推シ語リケル四五日ヲ歴テ後チ侍一人中門ニ 挟筥ヲ持セ南蛮寺同宿梅庵使ノ者ナリト案内 シ来ル伽羅一斤緞子五巻縮緬五卷台ニ積載セ 一宿ノ礼謝ヲ述テ贈来リヌ母甚タ驚キ過分ノ 賜物甚難儀之由段々辞退ニ及ヒケレトモ使ノ者 差置帰リヌ其後モ或ハ絽又ハ糸類等折ニフレ 時ニシタカヒ音物シテ無余儀因置ヌ遥ニ程過 テ後雨天ノ夕暮又堺ヲリ帰ト偽リ此老母ノ宿

梅庵を招き入れた。《割書:従僧二人、笠持ち一人、挟み箱一人、草履取り一人、駕籠の者四人、若党二人、上下十二人なり》梅庵は美しい服を着て、名香で辺りを薫らせていた。当時は乱世の頃で、まだ京へも三里、夜道の物騒で物憂いところ、一夜の御厚志ありがたく候とて、投宿の礼謝を述べて宿泊した。翌朝に至り、母は家内に指示して「御僧の宗旨は知らねども、もしや仏壇の尋ねもあろうかと」仏間の掃除等まで心を配っておいたけれども、客僧は少しもそのことに触れることもなく、上下して母のもてなしを受け、心遣いの礼を述べて帰った。母は思案して家内の者に語ったのは「客僧の様子を見れば、白服、緋縮緬、飛色等の美服を着し、天鵞絨の襟巻きなど、甚だ尋常の僧の風体と異なり、殊に内仏等をも尋ねず、必ず新宗南蛮寺の僧であろう」と推測して語った。四、五日を経た後、侍一人が中門に挟み箱を持たせ「南蛮寺同宿梅庵の使いの者なり」と案内して来る。伽羅一斤、緞子五巻、縮緬五巻を台に積み載せ、一宿の礼謝を述べて贈って来た。母は甚だ驚き、過分の賜物で甚だ難儀である由、段々と辞退に及んだけれども、使いの者は差し置いて帰った。その後も或いは絽、又は糸類等、折に触れ時に従って音物して、やむを得ず受け取った。遥かに程が過ぎた後、雨天の夕暮れ、また堺からの帰りと偽って、この老母の宿に

The mother reflected and told the household members: "Observing the guest monk's appearance, he wore fine garments of white robes, scarlet silk crepe, brilliant colors, and a velvet collar wrap - quite different from the appearance of ordinary monks. Moreover, he made no inquiries about our household Buddhist altar. He must surely be a monk of the new sect, the Nanban temple," she conjectured and told them. Four or five days later, a samurai came to the middle gate carrying a document box, announcing himself as "a messenger from Baian, a fellow monk of Nanban temple." He brought one pound of aloes wood, five rolls of damask, and five rolls of silk crepe loaded on a stand, expressing gratitude for the one night's lodging as he presented these gifts. The mother was greatly surprised and repeatedly declined, saying the excessive gifts caused her great difficulty, but the messenger left them and departed.
